Had this recommended to me

www.allofmp3.com/

Apparently you pay a bit in advance ($10) or something to keep your account topped up and albums cost about $1.50

yeah i use a similar russian-based service. apparently it's legal loophole - royalies on downloads do get paid, but it's technically illegal for us to use the sites outside of russia.

I know nobody has had a problem yet, but do you really think that its a good thing leaving your credit card details in the hands of a russian business which is completely unrgulated by any laws?

It's wide open to abuse I think and verrrrry dodgy...

Anyone else had any issues yet?

I used to use WinMX.com till it got shut down.

Downloaded Kazar the other day had to uninstall it way to many pop ups.

Anyother suggestions

Kazaa is a bit of a nightmare. Limewire is much better. No pop-ups, spyware or adware and it checks if the file is corrupted. Of course I couldn't condone you downloading music illegally from it though.

Another for Allofmp3.com - has certainly been a healthy site for my iTunes/iPod collection.

I had Kazaa before and echo the sentiments of others - its a royal pain in the... I cant abide pop-ups and most of the decent things I wanted took an age to get and then half the time werent what they were described to be.

Until the likes of iTunes and Napster drop their prices, I think I'll stick with Allofmp3.com

I used WinMx until it was shutdown. I used Napster back in its hay-day, then moved over to iMesh (not recommended - kept crashing my old comp) Tried E-Mule for a bit, and then (i think it was called) Azurus. I was one of the first 100,000 to start using Kazaa. Then went onto K-Lite and Kazaa Lite Revolution. They where all ok, but I've trouble connecting to these for the past year. Now onto Limewire. By far the best I've come acrossed. However there are some poor quality songs on there, I've had a bugger of a time trying to get one or two songs. Apart from that, Limewire all the way!

ETA: Anyone know where I can get an .mp3 or .wma file of Thomas Cajal "Runaway"? Cant find it anywhere. Found one person with it on Limewire months ago, but didnt download fully

incidentally, i am now using the allofmp3 explorer, and its fab!
leave it running and it just downloads all your new choons without all that right click save target as malarky.
i do turn off the catalog though

so is it illegal for us non-russians to download from allofmp3?

i was given the link by a friend, but had heard about other countries less strict restrictions on music downloads, such as russia, so have avoided signing up just yet...

Just to add, AFAIK there are no laws regarding the import of music files - mp3, ogg, whatever. So if you legally purchase something in Russia (ie allofmp3.com) and import it to this country, you haven't broken any laws.

Another vote for allofmp3.com.

Soon to be the biggest "legal" mp3 site on the interweb? Wonder if the RIAA can do anything about it, either.

My suggestion after downloading Kazar would be to back up my word documents, get them scanned for spyware on the works PC, and then resign yourself to losing all your other files. The only totally effective way to rid a PC of the cancer that is Kazaar is to do a complete format of the hard drive and then reinstall everything.
