Can anyone recommend a good, averagely priced restaurant near to Ascot races?

The Italian restaurant near Budgens is excellent. I think it's called Ciao 90?

Yep, Ciao 90. Details here.

What type of food are you after?

And would it have to be walking distance, or would you be driving?

There's some cracking restaurants - some on the expensive side, but worth it.

Walking distance, as short as poss.
Any type of food really, but nothing too expensive due to already overstretched finances....!

I would second Ciao 90, food is excellent, also Marrakesh which is a bit of a stroll but worth it, or Hyns in South Ascot is also worth a try. Nothing else within walking distance i'm afraid!

As already suggested above,

Ciao 90 [Italian] on Ascot high street is good (and a minutes walk).

Also suggested above - Hyns [Chinese] in South Ascot (about a 10 min walk - or 15-20 with ladies in high heels).

Alternatively, get the train to Sunningdale (next stop after Ascot - about 3 mins) and you have a choice of 2 nice restaurants right by the station - Tigers Pad, a kind of Indian/French mix and the italian restaurant which I used to love - and go to every Friday. But it changed hands about a year ago - and I've not been there since.

All said and done - if you consider getting the train to Sunningdale - it might as well be worth going to Hyns - as you'll be half-way there anyway.
