Yes, you can. The secret is in the preparation. Any Carp needs to be kept in a "clean water" environment for a couple of week prior to slaughter as the can be very "muddy" due to their bottom feeding (fnarr) habits. This cleanses them and makes them taste of fish as opposed to mud.

As a member of the Carp family, they should be edible. Damn expensive meal though.

Far too beautiful to eat.

Would the Ghost Carp taste different from the regular orange ones? scratchchin

It was something that came up a couple of years ago. A friend kept them and was left several more pretty big ones by a friend who no longer could keep them. He couldn't add them to his pond as he was already pretty much at the limit of water-to-fish and ended up giving them away to someone else. We always joked "They'd look even more beautiful on a plate of chips" etc. but nobody had ever heard of anyone eating them.

All freshwater fish are edible. As above though, bottom dwelling fish can taste pretty muddy. Pike is a good example.

Cheers,

Tom.

Same for tuna that gets sold at auction in Japan.

It always seemed to me to be something the Japanese would eat were it not for their revered status.

To quote Mr Murray; I eat cows, it's nothing personal, they just happen to be made of beef.

It depends on the markings, just because they're big doesn't make them worth a lot. Uniform patterns, no marks on the fins etc adds to the value.

Never eaten one though!
