NEC parking - £8 - a rip off!
Discussion
Went ot the NEC with the wife yesterday to a BBC home/garden/food show - good day out but every time I go there, I feel my urine boiling when I get into the place and 1) see how much they've raised he parking fees to and b) I get directed by some team of jobsworths in dayglo bibs just standing around ...
I drive in, 'one of a team of four' dayglo man gesticulates, I go in that direction ... then when I get to the car park, there are three of them all spaced at about 50m, waving and pointing me to a space, jeez I park in car parks quite regularly, I am capable of parking next to the last car I followed in ... meanwhile 'dayglo bib man' is there, shades on, walkie-talkie across his chest, earpiece, wire dangling, looking important. Christ, you'd think George Bush was in town.
IF THERE WEREN'T SO MANY OF YOU DAYGLO BIB MEN STANDING ABOUT DOING FCUK ALL UT POINTING, IT'D MAYBE BE A FIVER ... mney for old rope
Christ ...

When I lived in Solihull a couple of years back, I occasionally used to have get the train to London from Birmingham Interntional station, which is right next to the NEC. The parking in the station carpark was £5 for 24 hours.
Not sure whether it has gone up now but, if not, save yourself £3 for the sake of a 10 minute walk to the NEC itself.

I used to get angry about the price of parking until it occured to me just how valuable the land is that you are parking on.
It is utterly pointless charging you any less in a place like that because if they didn't charge that much the land wouldn't even be used as a car park (hope that makes sense).
At least you have a choice!

Worked as a car parking attendant back in my youth at the NEC . They normally give you the option of paying as your leaving your car, but if you don't, and return after the shows ended and afew minutes after the rush of everyone trying to leave, the barriers are normally up so you can leave without paying.

I go to a show at the NEC every February, and take advantage of the fact that they close the pay kiosks half an hour after the show ends. Simply visit at he end of the day, and it's free.
But then the show is over?Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
