Any Dentists here - need advice on chipped front tooth.

I was on holiday and smashed my front tooth on the bottom of the pool (note to self that was stupid). Anyway i have knocked about 3mm(across)x2mm (up)off. This isn't a massive bit but its noticeable so i need it fixed asap.

Private dentist, want £28 checkup then i assume big bill to fix the tooth.

Or i have managed to get booked in to an NHS dentist and will cost £15.50 to fix it (cheap) but will have to wait.

My question is, do you know how it will be fixed, can they fill it and colour match is or will it be a crown (which i believe is a fake tooth??).

Would the NHS approch be a cheap bad quality fix? or a match for the private dentist?

And any advice as to what im looking to pay to have it done private?

I am also thinking about getting dental cover for the future, if anyone has anyone they can recommend for this it would be much appreciated.

I chipped the top half of the back of one of my teeth in my lower jaw, an emergency appointment with an NHS dentist I wasnt even registered with cost me £40.

They just used some filler type stuff and touch wood 6 months later its like it never happened.

You might get lucky and get an NHS dentist who is willing to spend long enough layering the filling with different translucency composites from an expensive system like Miris, or Enamel HFo then polishing for at least 20 minutes with high end polishing discs....these dentists are now bankrupt and living under waterloo bridge
On the other hand they will probably just etch it and bang on one colour cheap Unodent a1/a2 composite which might look justabout acceptable for a few weeks, but will stain and look like you dipped your tooth in curry after about 3 months.

Really depends if you want it to look real. Many private dentists wont even be able to produce a convincing result, so you might want to go to a cosmetic dentist. Goto this site for one in your area...www.bacd.com
cost might go up to about 300 for a really nice job. For the size of the chip you have, I would go for a composite repair rather than a veneer if possible.

I chipped my front tooth 18 months ago (I was drinking from a glass bottle which someone elbowed and broke my tooth).

I paid my NHS dentist £15.50. She filed the tooth down so it was even and put a filling on it. It's barely noticeable apart from a small ridge where it joins the existing tooth.

Did mine aged 10. Had themput on privately - one fell off 17 years later and Baby coco has just bashed the other one off. NHS did equally good job

As for dental insurance policies then have a look at www.hsadentist.com. There are all sorts of policies and plans out there but you pays your money and takes your choice

Depends on the dentist more than anything else. There are dentists that do NHS and private work. You really need to find someone in you area who has had work done and can recommend a particular dentist for doing a good job.

I have a good dentist, but he's f'ing expensive. £1k to replace two old crowns last week!

well he fixed it with some composite, fell off today (lasted 3 weeks). Dont think he bonded it well, so back to the dentist for me.

17years wow hope mine lasts that long next time
