Went to see it this afternoon. After all the hype I was expecting something quite good even though it is essentially a childrens film. Well, it was awful. I mean really, really bad.
Everything about it was cr@p - the acting, the fight scenes, the plot.
However, trailer for 'I am Legend' looks superb!

Just got back from having seen it and thought it was very good- really captured the spirt of the book. I'd imagine that if you haven't read the books you might not have the background knowledge to understand quite what's going on and therefore get into it, still worth a watch though IMO.

I suspect I'd have enjoyed it far more had I not previously read the book. They've cut out so much content it's unreal, and to say the film feels "rushed" is like saying Saddam was "naughty".

The film felt like it was the book on fastforward so basically if you have read the books don't bother seeing the film
Both wifey and I have read all the books, the people we went with hadnt - we detested all of it, they were intrigued but all got the feeling there was "something" cut out - which we explained actually amounted to every other scene was missing!
Great concept, good SFX on the whole, though a lot of the greenscreening was a little too blatant (and not a single puff of breath in the arctic!).
Being an LOTR fan and having enjoyed HP, I thought it was a crying shame when the former ran to 3hrs apiece and the latter were a good 2:30 why oh why try and do Northern Lights in 90 minutes!??!

I really enjoyed it which, having read all negative reviews on here, was a pleasant suprise. I prefered the grittiness of it compared to the fairy taleiness of Stardust - although that was a jolly good romp.
Yes some of the acting was pretty hammy, but hey, Kidman was amazing, Eva Green was born for this kind of role and kids are unknowns so have to start somewhere.
The CGI did have a few detail holes and the whole thing seemed overdubbed as to almost totally neglect the envrionmental setting of any given scene, which was a bit odd. But viewed in the context that it really is a kid's film, all in all, I found it pretty enthralling.
The detail deisgns of the "familiar but not quite the same" city scapes and the machines, vehicles and technological objects was easily a match for LOTR. Literally fantastic.
My only real issue was the fact that it suffered the most blatent "Epmire Strikes Back" syndrome I've ever witnessed... which was a pity.
I'm sure the books must stand indiviually as stories in their own rights so why shouldn't the screenplay?. I hate it when films assmume you will return for the sequal and leave the audience hanging. It's a bit complacent and arrogant I feel especially, as was mentioned, above the film was not very long.
Looking forward the to next one though and will probably pick up the books when I've finished with Jackie Stewart.
