I was at the dentist this afternoon and happened to ask about electric toothbrushes and which is the best.

She said Sonicare, but that they are the most expensive.

I've had a look at the website, and it would seem that the basic "action" is the same, the difference is whether you want to pay more for something with christ knows how many timers and modes etc.

As I don't, presumably the cheapo one is still more than adequate?

Sonicare isn't the most expensive. wink

I've got one of these toothbrushes, it's the biz! Tried the cheaper ones, but the action is different and I didn't find they got my teeth as clean as the Sonicare. Still, you pays your money I suppose. smile

The Sonicare does take a bit of getting used to at first, though. Tickles like hell!! But you soon get used to it, and the results are pretty good.

Seconded, they're the nuts. Plus, they WERE on sale in Boots at about 70 quid, which was quite a reduction I think.

Got mine on eBay. Much cheaper. Brush replacements are cheaper too.

So that's why I suddenly found it easy to quit smoking.

To the OP - seriously, check eBay out and save a packet on a new one. If you're lucky you might get one stuck made from recycled marijuanal leaves instead.

Me too. And the seller was a dentist. (It said so in his profile so it must be true. I'm going to pay for it using the interest I make when the $20,000,000,000,000,000,000 Nigerian Dollars go through my bank account).

Cheers all. From what I can see the 7531 is the best offer, half price at Boots?

I noticed they were selling the Sonicare E7000 twin pack in Costco over the weekend. It was cheaper than boots but not sure how much they are on ebay. Replacement brushes were cheap in Costco though at only £12 for a double pack.

Costco have Philips Sonicare double pack, 2 complete brushes and handles, one charger, on offer at the moment for £80 or thereabouts.

If you're a member well worth a look.

For anyone interest Boots are doing loads of these things at half price.

I ended up getting a Sonicare 7xxx series, it's on charge right now having scared the living shit out of me when I accidentally switched it on.

I should add that I'm staggered that a) it's possible to make an electric toothbrush that costs £180 and b) that anyone would buy it.

Just another must-have accessory. I use decent toothbrushes - about £2.50 each IIRC and my dentist tells me my teeth are spotless. Money saved, less clutter and a postively petite carbon footprint. Damn, did I say that?!

My dentist recommeded it . Sait to avoid the ones with the circular motion..very bad for gums. I have had a SoniCare for years and the results have been superb. I love them.

Sonicare are very good. I got a couple in the Boots staff shop a couple of years ago and they are still working perfectly (albeit not with the original heads!)

for years my mum tried to get me to buy a sonicare, my dental hygenist said you cant beat good normal brushing. Coupled with a bit of re-education in the art of brushing and invested in a sonicare and the money as well worth it. Your teeth feel a lot cleaner after a good brush with one. The head lasts 6 months so its 20 quid every six months = well spent

He's a sly one your dentist, mine reccomended a circular movement one and it was less expensive (I made the "How can a toothbrush cost that much!" statement to begin with). Still makes a considerable improvement to teeth over standard toothbrushes, IMO.

My hygenist: Teeth are looking good. Which electric tootbrush are you using? The sonic one?

Me: Nope.. the hand and bit of plastic one.

I knew all that wanking practice would come in handy. smile

An Oral-B/Braun toothbrush will do just fine. You can pick up the Vitality model for about £15 or £20. Much more efficient at cleaning, the small head means you can get evrywhere with it and it is MUCH more friendly on your gums than scrubbing away with a manual toothbrush. I see a lot of gum recession due to bad brushing technique. This not only destroys tooth support with time but also renders teeth very sensitive. An electric brush takes away all the guesswork and you can get models with timers and pressure sensors to stop you ppushing too hard too.

I've been using a Sonicare for years - absolutely brilliant and really clean your teeth. They also get rid of tobacco stains, and definitely make a huge difference to gum disease and plaque. The best thing is they have a 2-minute timer, which buzzes to tell you when to switch to the next area to clean. Highly recommended at whatever cost. Mine has been totally reliable, never missed a beat. thumbup <- look at those teeth!! hehe

Been using the basic Oral B ones for years they seem fine certainly better than manual brushing. Always on offer at Boots at xmas for 1/2 price. Heads are £5 for 2 if you shop round. Wouldn't bother with all the fancy timers and stuff all seems a bit unnecessary.
