Gold and Housing
Discussion
Having been a regular visitor to this site for a few years but not having signed up, the house prices discussion has forced my hand. I remember a few years back that the conversation on house prices would rear its head now and again only to be quashed quite quickly and it died a death. I think the fact that the debate on housing has now reached over 100 pages long is an indicator in itself that it is now inevitable that prices will begin to drop in pounds sterling everywhere across the UK very soon. But if you measure house prices in Oz of Gold over the last few 3 or 4 years you will see they have been dropping for a long term. In times of negative real interest rates Gold brings greater returns (nearly 50% in the last year alone). I fear that by the time the average man on the street wakes up to whats happening and whats going to happen he will be in severe financial pain. Having got myself in a position over the last 7 years to pay for a house outright i will continue to rent until a house costs the same to buy as it does to rent. I cannot understand why people keep buying houses and flats to rent out at a loss, there is surely something weird about the UK when it comes to housing. With the price of food and energy likely to double over the coming years the cost of renting and the cost of a house measured in Gold Oz is going to drop without a doubt. People have brought into the uk housing scam in the belief that they will have gain a big secure pension from it where in fact if you avoid buying a house at this time and invest in other assests you will be able to retire much sooner. Who disagrees?
I agree with you 100%.
After extensive internet research I have decided to put all my money into gold.
All the reviews on the site below said it was a good idea too.

Lie back, close your eyes and prepare to be seduced. Experience the dark, smooth, succulent velvetiness and succumb to its sensuality unequalled by any other.

Yeah, but the big gains must be if you'd bought it long enough ago, and if Joe Public gets his lunatic get-rich-quick chops round the idea it could be all over the place like an inexpertly yo'd yo-yo. (There's less inertia keeping things stable as JP doesn't have to keep his gold investments, whereas he does need at least one house.)

Most people. You cant compare house prices to gold prices, especially not from the last 18months.All mineral prices have shot up recently simply because of China gobbling up the worlds resources forcing prices to go through the roof like never before, whats the British housing market got to do with China, apart from the rise in costs for materials for new builds?
Just to recap, you've spent 7 years renting property as you thought the prices were going to drop. The house you would have purchased 7 years ago has probably risen in value by at least 50% or so depending on where you are. You could have been paying 7 years off your mortgage and had an apreciating asset up till now at least.
Now you're advising everyone to buy gold instead?
