Fed up with ebay & their constant price increases, i've just joined ebid - they're offering a 'lifetime' membership for £49.99 (normally £100), which is a one off fee & then free listing and no selling fees for life! It's free to list there anyway for a standard free membership, but FVF is about 3% which is a lot cheaper than ebay.

Sorry that link contravenes the R of P 2.9

I have bought from there in the past. It's a good alternative to ebay...

Yes but who the heck is going to look there?

People who've heard of eBay and go there to look for stuff: 1,000,000,000
People who've heard of eBid and go there to look for stuff: 4

So whilst eBay may charge more, they are much more likely to get you a higher price.

Admittedly the site will get a LOT less traffic than ebay at the moment, but it does seem to be getting a lot more now, that's why i bought the lifetime membership, as if it does take off, i can't see them offering it for £50!

They should invest in a TV advert campaign, once word gets round there's no reason why it shouldn't rival ebay.

Especially since Ebay is going to raise it's final valuation fees to just over 7% soon. Admittedly they're scrapping their listing fees, but even then they're still high compared to free listing and 3% final value fees on Ebid.

The internet is a small place, a few adverts in key places and they'll see traffic escalate.

A lot of the Ebay sellers are saying that they are looking at other sites to sell on, especially when the new rules about feedback come in.

I have given up trying to sell my jewellery on Ebay, am seriously looking at Ebid and Etsy at the moment.

I think eBay has had it's day.
Ebid looks good, I hope it catches on.

The problem with Etsy is that it's mostly for Americans and the dollar value means it just isn't worth it frown (I looked into it too for my stuff).

That's the problem with ebay, listing fees - If you want to list an item for a few hundred £ with reserve picture gallery etc, you can be paying several pounds to list & if it repeatedly doesn't sell, it just eats into the items value.

It's taking off, x this chat by x1000's forums... and you get the idea... ebay has become way to expensive.

Good to see ebid advertising on pistonheads thumbup

Since i posted this back in February, auction listings have gone from approx 0.5 to 1.2 million uk listings!

They're also advertising on many websites, including itv now!

Noticed that traffic has really increased and had a few more sales recently - The £50 membership i paid has easily paid for itself in the savings i've made from not listing the items on ebay. definitely worth looking at as an ebay alternative now.

Hmmn. But there are 76 cars for sale on ebid and 134,000 on ebay.

A bit of catching up to do yet!

True, but i've noticed that ebid Cars & Vehicles listings have gone from 20K to over 52K in the past month!

The advertising seems to be working.

Yes, 52K under category 'Cars & Vehicles'

i sold a Land rover defender on ebid for a friend - cost me £1 for a featured advert, what would that cost you on ebay?

Please don't think that I'm knocking ebid, as I'm certainly not. I am keen as anyone to have a viable alternative to ebay.

But having only 76 cars for sale doesn't make it the destination for car buyers or sellers; in fact it obviously means that it's not even on most peoples' radar.

eBay were very successful in getting car dealers, who for decades had put thir weekly advertising pounds into Autotrader (mag and subsequently online) to realise that they were missing out on a huge online buying audience. The motor trade is quit a slow beast to re-educate itself and so it'll be a long fight to get them to drop one advertising method in favour of another. I'd be surprised if ebay really cared if even 50% of it's private car sellers moved across, given its revenue stream through ebay motors.

imo selling a car on ebay is one of the only decent value services they provide, i don't use it anymore, but i thought it was a fair system to charge a small fee to list and then only pay a fixed price reasonable fee if it sells, compared to the old way on car trading sites of placing an advert and paying full price even if it doesn't sell. Outside of ebay motors though it's a different matter! they've increased the basic monthly shop fee from £6 to £15 plus listing fees and i think it can be around 8% on sales fees, they also force you to offer paypal which can take around another 5% otherwise you can't trade on ebay without paypal.

I wouldn't expect that large sellers will just quit ebay completely and move over to ebid, but it is worth listing on both, especially as it's free to list on ebid, could be wrong but i think they offer a service to upload your ebay adverts onto ebid now, so it wouldn't even take long to place adverts there. I find it faster to list there anyway, much less complicated!

I put some xbox 360 games up for auction on ebid for the first time yesterday.
I dont hold much hope of selling them, there is just not enough people viewing the site.
The only plus side is that it doesnt have bad parts of ebay.
