Am sitting here kicking my heels waiting to carry on with a DIY project that I started yesterday and was wondering what would be considered a socially acceptable time to start using power tools.

Am building drawers so will be using a router and a biscuit cutter, not the quietest tools in the world, and I need to work outside because of mess they make.

I want to get cracking before the weather turns but I don't want to piss all the neighbours off in a half mile radius.

Jump to it. If they have a problem they can come over and tell you to down tools, this way you can gauge future parameters for the same question.

Only problem is if the local residents don't complain and keep quiet then progressively over time they will just build a deep resentment towards you.

Count yourself lucky. In some parts of Switzerland you can not even clean your car on a Sunday let along fire up a power tool, they have laws against that kind of tom foolery

On a Sunday? 10am would be totally acceptable, 9am depending on how well you get on with the neighbours!

Cheers.
I think i'll crack on with cutting out the drawer parts inside with a hand saw and then bring out the heavy artillery at 10.

6 AM is the "earliest" on a Sunday IMO.

Don't be silly, 6AM doesn't exist on Sundays.

I agree about 10 a.m. as well, I am sick to the back teeth of hearing tools at 8 in the morning, bet they would soon moan if I sat in the Caterham warming it up at that time when they were not busy doing an MDF speshul.

Just go for it - it's not going to be happening everyday / every Sunday...

I started welding and grinding at 7:30 am today, on my hot rod chassis, but it is inside my garage with the doors closed. If it was outside I'd not start until 10am, as that is the sort of time I'd want to have peace and quiet for if it was ME asleep and having a lie in after working all week. No that I ever do lie in but I'm sure Joe Average does.

Most folk work all week, so leave them a little peace and quiet on the one day they get to stay at home and relax.

10am, here too. What time would you like them to crank up the hifi on a Sunday morning?

I'd say 9.00 to 9.30. After all you can see from the number of replies that everyone is up earlish on a Sunday!

Judging by the face that lives upstairs, 4.30am is more than reasonable....

Apparently, people like me should live in houses not flats...

My estate has to be the quietest - I've heard one car go past and that's it - no people, noise, nothing!

Why not go and knock on the neighbours doors at 9am and ask if they mind if you start now??!!?

(obviously I'm a bit late, but I was thinking 9-10am really)...

To be honest, it's actually something I did once, but whilst I was on my way, my neighbour was dragging his hoover out to the car to start hoovering it, so I kinda figured I'd be ok to start with the drilling...biggrin
