The number of people asking this must increase every year, but...
What do i do?!
The question i'd like to ask the PH collective is "What will i do with my life?"
Now, some facts.
I attained 8 standard grade credit level 1's and had the highest GPA (Grade Point Average) in my school.
In the preliminary examinations I again succeeded, achieving one of the highest marks in Scotland for Computing.
I applied and got a conditional for an MA in Economics.
I love motors, natch!
With the currect economic state of affairs (ah, the irony) i'm debating with myself whether I should do one of the following
Go to Uni after this year
Stay on for another year of boredom and Advanced highers...
Leave school after these exams and do something (PH assistance needed for this!)
Leave school right now and do something (seems a little silly)
I feel a hoarde of pressure from the education system and although i know it is beneificial to me, I feel that the time for me to be educated has stopped and I need to apply myself.
I'd like to live a lifestyle that i could afford goodies and various cars etc. My dad, being a layabout in his youth, is now a success and owns a few nice cars and a lovely house.) He worked as a postman and worked right up to an executive account manager. Woop-de-doo i hear you say. He never had a house, and lived in the back of a 1.6 capri for 3 months of him starting work.
Thank you PH

I also have to agree with POD, I did not get where I am now by asking other people questions about what I wanted to do.
I tried a number of different jobs, picked what I liked doing and fitted my lifestyle, and threw myself at it full on.
Do the same, see a bit of life then give it the best shot you got, whatever it is.

You need to think what you want. On Ph there are many who have no qualifications and yet are loaded, others who have qualifications equally well heeled. Both routes have merit but the main one for formal uni education is getting a job afterwards. Both my neighbours kids did Chemistry at Nottingham and are now in London working in the finance sector, without the degree they wouldn't have got an interview where they are.
I am not a fan of gap years as basically it is a year on holiday, yes you mature but earning a living does the same quicker.
Whatever only you will know what is right for you, don't do what you feel others want you to do.

Qualifications generally speaking give you more choices. It's better to have, than have not... Those that tell you 'they don't matter' or 'nobody asked to see mine' generally have no more than a Bronze Swimming Certificate...* Generally speaking
If you have the grey matter, then it's really no hardship.

- Cue an unprecedented number of PistonHeads BSc's MSc's and PHd's..!

First thing I would do is sign up to a predominantly motoring based website, go in to the virtual pub and ask for advice on what I should do next What do i do?!

I have an MSc, and it's come in useful. I wanted to go and get a job when I was 16, but was forced to carry on. Others have done very well without a degree, so I'd just say that it's probably easier for you to get one in the next few years, rather than decide when you're 30 or 40 that you should have gone to Uni. It's also probably more fun when you're the same age as most Uni students...

Try this

"I'm considering one of your motorsport courses and wondered what my employment prospects might be upon graduation?"
"I'd be interested to know how your recent alumni are faring. Can you put me in touch with anyone who can help me find out?"[/b]
In the meantime carefully write these instructions on the back of you hand.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
