MP's expenses

Amazed there isn't already a thread on this (unless I'm being dozy and missed it...)

So these greedy tosspots can claim:

Groceries/food/provisions
TV licence AND Sky
Rent
Interest on mortgage
Utility bills
Council tax
Phone bills
Cleaning
Household repairs
Home insurance
Plus "additional cost" of running a second home!

FFS... why do we pay these bent c***s a wage? What on earth do they have left to spend it on?! If I had all the above paid for me I'd be living like a king on my measly £23k salary!

Now I can claim expenses for work... fuel for getting to site and back, hotel cost for working away, tools and materials, printer ink, paper etc... I always thought that was pretty decent, but compared to what the MP's get it's positively stingy!

If you have to deal with the vagaries of IR-35 and running your own limited co in a legal way where you have to justify every last penny spent then yes... it is a bit sick making.

There is definitly one rule for them, and another much harder one for us.
It is ironic that labour are so good at separating themselves from the common man, Ed Balls, man of the people is on £600,000 IIRC.
They must have a fine tuned hypocrisy gland, similar to Red Ken's 'I don't feel guilty so it's not wrong' philosophy.

What, even if, as well as your house in S Yorks, you also had to fund a house in London so that you could do your job?

They do some things though, and without any checks, that surely no-one else would be allowed to do.

How do you get £600k? As a cabinet minister he is barred from taking any outside directorships and consultancies. He will get his salary of £115k or therabouts plus his expenses and allowances. Unikely to add up to more than $200k? Which is pretty ordinary when compared to most plc directors or many local government ceo's.

If they're thete for 4-5 days a week it will be their primary residence.Another way is to have your constituency house in your partner's name and you London house in your name......?

Actually you can only claim reduced taxation when spending your own money on these items.
Getting them paid for you is completely different.

From this article - although it does include his squeeze so I guess he is only up for £300,000.

Which I guess is an equivalent wage of 300000 / 0.6 = £500,000

So I know why he smiles a lot, it's not just the sly grin of someone whos never even been a teacher being put in charge of children.. Still, we can rejoice that we'll be paying his gold plated pension when we're old and grey - lucky our retirement age is going up eh?

"happy" would probably be an exaggeration, but it's an inevitable consequence of the job they do, the fact that it's in London etc etc.

My company effectively has bought me a Mercedes, with the monthly allowance and the mileage payments I get. Is that any different?
