Is there any truth to the rumors about these waterfront properties crashing in value because of threats that the marsh land there built on are going to give way causing the whole thing to collapse (I also heard from one young woman that terrorists will now be targeting them because of this as well).

Now, as silly as all this sounds to me, im wondering where its all come from, no smoke without fire and all that? I didn't even know there was marsh land there for a start.

What, because of the marshland, or because they're hacked off at losing money on their flats??

I would have thought that the drop in value would be more likely caused by the threat of future flooding / properties being uninsurable etc.

We live reasonably close to a river and we've had householder letters from the Environment Agency warning us that our house "could" be liable to flooding in the future rolleyes

Global warming eh? winkhehe

It could happen in the future, but you're more likely to get a glacier knocking on your door first! wink

So if you see a dodgy middle eastern type pouring a cup of water on the pavement just outside your apartment...

You say that, but the nice new estate just down the road from us found itself two feet under water in the last bad weather. The environment agency is having trouble maintaining existing flood defenses (big cuts in budget). On top of that, recent large scale developments have led to increased risks of flooding due to loss of natural soakaways.

It all adds up to an increased likelihood of flooding in future, regardless of any change in rainfall patterns.

The newly developed bristol water front properties specifically, thats why I originally posted this in the south west section, didn't really make that clear though I guess.

There were some flats being built in Edinburgh called Platinum Point which the developers were having real trouble filling. The local rumour mill suggested that the artificial land they'd put it on jutting into the sea, wasn't sufficient and things were starting to shift/sink.

No idea how true it was, but the existence of the rumour didn't exactly help sell the remaining flats. Dunno what the status is now.
