Does anyone wear Magnum boots?
Discussion
They're an great combination of a reasonably tough yet flexible boot that somehow manages to be as comfortable as a pair of slippers the first time you put them on.
Wore them solidly through my police years, still my choice for work boot now, (except in mid-summer when they do get a little too hot). I did have a steel-toe/steel-sole pair for one incarnation, the added weight wasn't annoying.
You won't regret buying a pair, it's a shame they don't last a _little_ longer as a year or so my wear tends to kill a pair off, but I always replace with the same.

Depends what you want 'em for.
I thought I'd try a pair as a lightweight boot for training on Dartmoor, after one three-day exercise, involving no more than 45 miles walking, the soles fell apart so I took them back and got a refund. It's quite rough terrain in parts up there, but I would have expected better then 3 days / 45 miles!!

Magnums are pretty poor to be honest. The soles wear very quickly and they fall apart.
I used to wear them on duty but needed a new pair every 6 months.....hence the swap to Altbergs which are far FAR better, in fact they are the best boots I have ever owned. 2 years old and still going strong.

Plus you can get them "serviced" - either just a resole, or resole/reline/repair.I used to wear them on duty but needed a new pair every 6 months.....hence the swap to Altbergs which are far FAR better, in fact they are the best boots I have ever owned. 2 years old and still going strong.
We're lucky enough to get them issued...
I reckon that it must be about eight out of every ten of us at work wear Magnum boots, must say something i guess.
Personally i year a pair of standard boots with the fabric sides when i'm on days and mostly doing enquiries and a pair of Protector ST's on afters and nights when i'm likely to be fighting or out in the cold.
Both pairs are getting on a bit now but still perfectly usable, the only downside to the protectors is that, with the steel toe and metal bottom plate, they're a bit heavier. You don't really notice at the time but really do when you put your trainers on to drive home.

Standard issue in our service as well - IMHO piss poor comfort, very sweaty, dreadful quality control and longevity. Only redeeming qualitiy is that they look good and they are cheap (and correspondingly nasty) - I use Altberg Peacekeeper P3s ( http://www.altberg.co.uk ) instead which are vastly superior in every respect - they do cost more but pay for themselves as you don't keep having to replace them!

Thanks for the link.I'd never heard of them before, but will look into them a bit further.
I have those boots. I can't really fault them although I have had a problem with the little loop at the back of the boot snapping. Other than that they are great. They are quite heavy if your after a lightweight boot though Although longevity is pretty good. I have had mine for about 15 months and have only walked about 1000 miles in them but that would be over really rough terrain where they are constantly saturated. I am ex military and have have used quite a few of makes of boots and although the mags are not the best, they are the best value for money.

The only other boot I would throw into the suggestion pot would be Lowa's, again expensive but very good quality. Tad too chunky for me for daily duty use etc but my old pair were very very good (prefer my altbergs though, not as bulky etc and dont look too 'off road' )

Comfortable though.
