Anyone else bought this? link

I bought it the other day and have just finished it. It's a fantastic little read and deserves more recognition.

There's not a huge amount in it that we've not read before on here but to have every aspect of the subject presented and deconstructed without malice or waving of fingers is very refreshing and makes for good reading. As every single point is referenced it would be almost impossible for the green lobby to legitimately attack it and for that it shouldn't be allowed to slip under the radar.

What you say is right - except for the green lobby attack bit!

Already we've had Michael 'Five Homes' Meacher preattling on in a review about the Gore graphs, which as we on PH all know have temperature changes occurring before the carbon dioxide changes, and no positive feedback in sight. It's a feeble attempt, but they're still trying through ignorance or mendacity or both.

Yes, I saw extracts of it in The Daily Telegraph. It seemed like good well-balanced writing.

I've just had a response from my email to all my MEPs in the form of a voicemail left on my moby, it's from Tom Wise Lib Dem MEP who seems to be very sceptical of MMGW, haven't had a chance to chat to him yet, anything you want me to say?

He was on Newsnight a few weeks ago presenting this book and unfortunately he was shouted down be a greenie.

You've got to remember that the far-left greens and the media are essentially symbiotic, they are dependent on each other. The media deals in extremes ('the world is going to end and everything is worse than we thought' is a headline, 'the world isn't going to end and things aren't as bad as we thought' isn't), whilst the far-left greens deal in misinformation and fear.

Unfortunately, accurate information isn't fear-inducing enough. Bring a genuine climatologist on screen to explain the current occurences in climate and the audience, by and large, would fall asleep. No-one buys the Daily Wail if the headline reads 'Diana died in a tragic accidents, immigration is fairly stable and innocuous and your house values are fine'.

Sadly, this symbiotic need the far-left greens and the media have for each other has become institutionalised and ingrained on most people's consciousnesses. Speak to a non-petrolhead Joe Public about motoring, and his opinion has gone from something he didn't think twice about, to something he sees as loathesome and barely tolerable that will 'inevitably' be banned sooner or later. Ordinary people are using phrases like 'when cars are banned' and 'when the floods come' in everyday conversation.

It's a mess, and if I'm being honest I can't see much of a way out. One of the world's most technically advanced, wealthy and forward-looking nations seems to be in the process of wilfully - even happily - engaging reverse gear under the pretence of it being for its own good.

I think that the more people who read a book like this the more the greenies will be exposed as frauds.

If this book (and similar) aren't successful it'll be conveniently assumed that no-one agrees with them.

I'd probably be in a cold faint after discovering a climate realist libdim! There's plenty of information / ammunition they could be sent (if not already in possession) for them to use. Would they be prepared to fight the whip though?

That's precisely my point. It won't sell well because the majority of people don't buy books and papers that say everything's going to be OK. They buy the Daily Mail and books called 'No Daddy, not my gerbil' because we live in an age of extremism, paranoia, guilt and morbid mass fascinations.

The nation is on a downer, a terminal negative streak brought on by a combination of the media, the greens, anti-terrorism programmes and high-profile, low-effect crime policies telling us all to be terrified and do exactly as the authorities say.

Lord Lawson's book is currently the third most popular title in the 'Science and Nature' category on Amazon UK:

Link

Not sure if the link will work, but the title may be even higher by now as I last looked a while ago.

Speaking of mis-information, that 'greenie' on Newsnight was Professor Chris Rapley CBE, Director of the Science Museum and former director of the British Antarctic Survey.

And speaking of information, this from a still-active scientist academic, an associate of mine and Tafia who has direct experience of this 'greenie'. These are his exact words:

A few years ago when Professor Chris Rapley became Director of BAS he refocused all research to "climate change". You were either with him or against him. If you were in the latter group you lost funding and your job! Those that remain know which side their bread is buttered on! I know about this because I was seconded to BAS when Rapley arrived.

True Believer, true to form.

I bought it a couple of weeks back, but it's currently sitting, along with dozens of other books, in my 'to read' pile. I'll get around to it eventually and I know that I'll enjoy and revel in every word.

I didn't see any evidence of anyone being "shouted down", that is pure hyperbole, indeed Rapley was more polite to Lawson than Lawson was to Rapley (for instance Lawson attempted to marginalise Rapley by saying that he was at the extreme end of scientific opinion, which was not borne out by Rapleys comments, which were both moderate and mainstream). As already pointed out, he is also a scientists well qualified to discuss the matter rather than just a "greenie".

Having watched the interview (did you?) TC16 got it right, Rapley displayed the same arrogant manner as per the greenie bible, when you've lost the scientific debate the only thing left to do is bluster. Those who worked with him know the score, see earlier post.

yes, I did watch the interview. Lawson was not shouted down, but given adequate time to make his points, without substantial interruption (as was Rapley). Note that Rapley was happy to concede points where Lawson's argument had some truth, hardly extremist behaviour or "shouting down". The discussion was conducted in a largely gentlemanly manner by both sides (excepting the rhetorical ploys one would normally expect in a political debate). If you think that Rapley was being any more arrogant than Lawson, you must have been watching a different interview. The only person that was disrespectful to Lawson in the interview was Paxman.

Lord Lawson's book is the latest but it won't be the last. The data is providing more and more material for papers and books. Time for any True Believers with an ounce of sense for self-preservation to start formulating their exit strategy.
