What do I like? The usual blokefest of DeNiro/Pacino offerings. I'm no Barry Norman, but Motorcycle Diaries was a film to watch and just enjoy the qualities I outlined in the OP.
It's probably going to be repeated on Film 4, give it a go. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did....

its not bad as a film as long as you ignore the fact che was infact a cowardly mercenary who when finally caught by the americans said "please dont kill me, Im worth more to you alive" and not the saint portrayed in this film.

Motorcycle Diaries is superb - but untill recently whenever I mentioned it people just said 'Oh yer that thing with Charlie & Ewan in...'

And also 'Amelie' < probably one to watch with your otherhalf rather than your mates & a crate of beer though!

Oddly, I just watched that for the first time today. Absolutely recommended. Even my mum liked it when she saw it.

Wrong.
You'll find that the book is based upon his memoirs of his adventure across the Americas and also from letters he sent home to his family. There are plenty of people who he met during that time who would, from personal experience, rubbish what you have said - for example the leper colony he worked at. It is obvious he wasn't all angel, as I guess you can't be when fighting a guerilla war, and there is evidence he did some things to boost his ego. He wasn't any good as a government finance minister, that's for sure! Put aside whether you're on the side of socialism or capitalism, he fought for what he believed wherever he was needed - if that makes him a cowardly mercenary then so be it.

Yeah they're good. I like All About My Mother. It's definitely not one to watch with your mates between COD4 with a few tinnies but it's so remarkably moving. Cinema Paradiso is another good one.

Heard it was good, but stumbled on it on Film 4 a few months ago and it was brilliant.
One of the best films I have sen for a while.
