Aye, it's been done to death.

My main point remains - if you're the sort of person who likes to look at the negatives of where you live, you'll find plenty to moan about in NZ, Canada, or anywhere else.

I think those four are just a case of same s...t but with different weather. The US would be a complete non starter.

Language is a major issue to take into consideration too.

I'm 30, and like most folk my age, a helluvalot of my friends have fled the U.K. or are in the process of doing so. I met a nice Norwegian bird and didn't think twice when she asked me to move.

If you're a bit blue collar like me, I was bored of working my conkers off driving a desk all day, sitting in a traffic jam at both ends off the day, working Saturday mornings and having nothing left at the end of the week. In fact I just felt I was working to pay for the knuckle draggers who didn't want to work because they were too busy reproducing.

I work less here and get paid lots more, yes Norway is shockingly expensive but at the end of the day I can easily afford day to day stuff and have money left to buy luxuries.

I'll tell you the biggest difference I've found in the better quality of life I have here, It's the people. Whenever I speak to English people now I'm embarassed, the vast majority are ill educated fat arses.

In a nutshell, I'd recommend Norway. Or Sweden if you prefer blondes and don't want to get paid too well.

HTH.

Too right. That's exactly where the phrase "whinging pom" came from. All the unhappy brits emigrating and still finding stuff to complain about. These people are never going to be happy anywhere in the long term.

Still though, it's better if the dissatisfied people bugger off and stop trying to drag the rest of us down.

Some people are better off emigrating though, even just to realise that their new location brings equal but different frustrations.

I guess you have to work out what things you value, work/life ratio, pace of life, sunshine, stability, earning potential, scenery for example. I've spent a lot of time in Oz and loved it. A good deal of that time was with relatives and we always get newspapers sent over so I know there are a few topics of contention such as drought, immigration and decline of traditional industries. I don't necessarily dislike the country of my birth but I just prefer the warmer weather over there and Sydney city life.

Oddly, the Australians I know are all trying to emigrate - mostly because of immigrants, chavs and traffic enforcement! Funny old world.

What you will discover, if this thread is allowed to live because there was one a couple of weeks ago, is that you will get helpful replies and people who despise you for even bringing up the idea of leaving in the first place.

There seems to be a rationale that some people want us all to suffer equally. The idea of escaping the UK is borderline treason.

Anyway, have fun whilst you get torn apart.

(BTW, US, lower taxes, cheaper fuel, cheaper everything, better service, better weather, and where we live politicians talk about quality of live when discussing road building - eg sitting in traffic jams after a long day at work is not progress).

Depends why you want to move. Moving to NZ has worked for m, and works for 80-90% of UK people who do it.

But you have to move for the right reasons.

A Monaro is cheaper in the UK than in Australia.

We get bent over backwards and screwed over without lube.
