A friend of mine was out shopping today and was looking at some flowers outside a florist.

A stranger aked her what she would choose if she could have anything. So she replied tulips and lilies. He promptly picked them and bought them for her. Told her she seemed a very nice girl, was really pretty and to have a nice day.

He then just wandered off without leaving any details.

She's very happy and yes she's gorgeous and a genuinely lovely young lady.

Question is, would you do that just to make a stranger smile?

I've often considered things like this, even maybe just complimenting someone. But then I think better and don't do it, because all I'd probably get is an awkward "thank you" and then odd looks by everyone in the area when I move on.

When I was at college we took quite a dim view on one of our friends who relished in accepting drinks offered to her, with absolutely no intention of knowing anything about them. "Hey, it's free alcohol, I won't complain!"

... :sigh:

Fair play to him. Must take some cojones to go through with something like that.

I'll try that in the local Spar next time I'm in. I'll buy her a nice mixture; plain, self raising and wholemeal.

In that case, No.

Please see the 'Adults afraid of being near children' thread for reasons.

Its smooth in some ways. Although if some fella bought my missus flowers I'd follow him round the back of Debenhams and brutally revenge-bum him.

[pauses...maybe that's his motive?]

Does a few weeks off 20 constitute being a child?

I once filled my car up at the petrol station and went in to pay when the woman behind the counter said the man at the pump next to me had paid for my fuel. He hadn't left a card but asked the cashier to tell me I had brightened up his day so he wanted to brighten up mine. No idea who it was but £50 of fuel for free was nice!

Oh and I've thought about this before. Often when I've bought flowers for the g/f, I'll be walking through town and spot a glum but attractive woman and just a split second I've thought she'd probably appreciate them more. But I lack the balls, and it would be doing the g/f a disservice as it's superb to see her happy also.

If I did it at a shop, what with the way florists are on time management, she'll have wandered off, had kids and begun suffering from dementia before they even get the ribbon out.

Did he keep the receipt to claim it back against his tax??
I'm not for a minute saying that you're not a very attractive girl, that the sight of would no doubt brighten the days of most men.....but why??
That is essentially £50 down the pisser if he's not even going to ask you out for a drink or something!?!?
Same goes for the flowers!
