Just tried to add a payee, to my Barclays online banking, now basturds Barclays have sent me a 1980's calculator to log on.

You have to carry stupid calculator whenever you want to log on.
Need to find another bank, can't be dealing with that POS.

Don't mind an RSA keyring thing, but not a 1980's size calculator, to add insult it doesn't even work as a calculator.

There is a way to log on without it, but you can't set up new payees or check DD's etc. Trouble is you have to re-register this every 10 days or so.

You would have thought in the current climate banks would want to make it easier to keep tabs on your account, not harder.

I'm with Intelligent Finance. If I add a payee to my account, it texts the mobile number stored on the account (only shows the last 3 numbers of the phone number on the site) with a notice that a new payee has been added. Provides half of a PIN which you have to combine with the other half that's generated on the site.

Very secure and a much better way of doing it. Without the confirmation PIN from the text, you can't add a payee. Much better than carrying a 'Speak & Spell' around with you!

Nationwide have done it too. PITA.....I suspect the whole industry will adopt them.

I have the Natwest one, had it about 6 months.

You only have to use it if you are adding a new payee to your account which makes sense to me. Would stop someone hacking into your account and then sending your money to an account you know nothing of.

Only limitation for me is that if I want to add a new payee, I have to wait until I'm at home. No big deal!

This may not solve the problem but I realised the other day you can use any pin sentry unit for any card i.e. I used my OH's nationwide one for my barclays account.

I rang up and asked for another one so I can have one at work and one at home, which is the only two places I would check my account.

Arggh, some old school charm goes a long way if you get the right person in the call centre!

It can be a bit of a pain when you add a new payee and I really don't mind it too much if it adds extra security.

Of course I can always ring up the Premier Banking people and chat to my account manager if I need something doing when I'm not near a computer.

Don't quite qualify for th Private Banking though where they telepathically know when you need something doign and call you. hehe

Agreed, very annoying.

Most annoying is when you want to make a payment, you have to type the amount in and get a code before you can do it.

It is a little annoying, but it is probably more secure than the old system.

I have one, it's rubbish and a massive PITA. The calculator sits on my desk at home so I can't check my account when at work, my parents place or over in France which is a colossal ballache. I know it's more secure than the old system but what would anyone else want with my overdraft anyway?!
