Assuming Mugabe left today, how many years would it take to rebuild the economy? Are we talking a couple of years or an entire lifetime(s)?

Generations. The farming land that was 'reassigned' has been neglected. It won't be productive for years.

Worth remembering that very few people on any street know what drives inflation. So if Mugabe tells people its the rich white farmers hoarding land and money, fair chance they're gonna believe him

And we believe that inflation in the UK has nothing to do with Gordon and his BoE friends.

Wow.

Imagine that.

Imagine buying your cheese sandwich from M&S in Zimbabwe.

"That'll be 400 billion dollars please."

OMG, imagine buying a car over there.

"Nice choice sir. The Vauxhall Tigra is a real man's car. That'll be so much money, there isn't even a word for the number."

etc

etc

They've also smashed up all of the machinery and irrigation systems. The only people capable of sorting Zimbabwe out are the Chinese IMO.

They're missing a trick. The notes are going for about 50 quid on eBay.

what exactly do you do when a country has inflation > 2m% ?! It's mind boggling trying to work out the implications even on day to day life. What are the citizens going through exactly? Does a 50p orange today cost them 3k tomorrow?,

Yes, it doesn't make much sense to us. You take your savings out of the bank, say 5000 dollars, and tomorrow you're left with physical notes worth half as much or worse. Unless your employer then gives you a pay rise every half hour to keep pace, but then they'd have to bill their customers at a price that takes into account what the amount will be in a month's time when it's paid.

Really quite bizarre.

Given the way China treats it's own people, God help them. frown

So what you are telling us is you part take in necrophilia?

Whatever floats your boat and since you have just admitted not being able to attract a live female, I suppose a dead one is good enough for you.

Dont you worry about maggots?

Thats a very good question. Reaction would be to ask “why not just use another currency, eg US dollars, or Euros?” If that’s too drastic, how about using South African Rand? Or indeed, why not Chinese Yuan Renmimbi?

Didnt Germany have a similar problem with their Marks during the war? I think they reprinted it all as the DeutschMark, and the problem was ultimately fixed. I suspect there may have been more to it than a simple reprint, eg fundamental economics behind it all, what with the rebuilding of the country. I dont see Zimbabwe as undergoing a similar effort, but some parallels must be there, surely?
