I got my electricity bill the other week and it was £85 for 6 weeks... I live on my own in a tiny 2 bed flat and think this is somewhat high!

Have any of you tried out one of those electricity usage monitoring tools like Wattson (http://www.diykyoto.com/wattson/about)? I would be interested to hear whether they actually help out, or are just there to look nice?!

I live in a small house and am never home. ConEd charges me close to $600 a month.

And I am never home mind you.

£85 for 6 weeks? Christ, I can only dream of such a bill.

We use gas for heating/hot water and electric for cooking.

£120 a month, month in, month out.

Feck. Glad I changed all the security lights to LED ones, that should cut it down a bit.

Matt are you leaving everything on all the time? Reason I ask is that I live in a three bed semi and only use short of £20 a month. Fair enough I've stuck energy saving bulbs everywhere but other than that no different than any other home. Do you leave the immersion heater on all the time?

I am very carefull about turning things off and wont leave lights on when not needed, etc... The water heater was on for 6hrs, but i have now changed that to under 3hrs. I have a PC on for upto 12hrs a day (this is probably the worst thing...).

But you have the AC set 24/7. Most UK houses don't have central A/C.

Seems a bit high, although we have ours on an equal payment plan. I haven't heard any screams from the wife so I assume ours is below or around $300/month
That includes lots of outside lighting and a pool filtre operating 8 hrs/day.

NY is slightly more expensive than NJ for Electric but not a lot.

Do you actually NEED the water heater to be on for 3hrs a day? I switch mine on manually for an hour and that seems to store enough hot water for the rest of the day for washing up etc. Admittedly I live on my own but I certainley don't go all scrooge and swith everything off all the time. Other than that all i can advise is try shopping around for a better supplier.

£85 for 6 weeks seems a hell of a lot to me. My electricity use for the whole of last year was £190 and I live in a three bedroom semi. You should definitely look to see whether there are cheaper suppliers in your area.
