Recently I have noticed a great trend when a really cool photo is embedded that there is a great leap to scream "Photoshop".

It's a bit like the scene in the Invasion of the Body Snatchers when Leonard Nimoy (in my case ecause I am an old fker) raises his hand and points his finger whilst screaming at the last other human left alive.

Is there such a disbelief that photographs actually showed and capturred some really interesting momnts in history withour having to be touched up?

I think people don't want to be taken for a fool, so to avoid that they believe nothing and instantly shout photoshop. If they are correct they also get the chance to say "I told you so"

No it wasn't - it was a camel, or a camel's shadow, I'm not sure which!

Not nearly as prevalent as the number of retards who scream 'fake!' at anything vaguely unusual or interesting on youtube.

Reading youtube comments is second only to observing one's physique under a fitting room striplight in the list of most depressing passtimes.

Photoshop is a stunning piece of software which is very clever. In the right hands its amazing what it can do. However, we have seen far too many examples of Photoshop being misused and as a result its to be expected that people shout 'Photoshop' at first....

As an example:

And a gratuitous example of re-touching for the boys:

Trawl through the site above - its quite fascinating as to what they try to get away with.

But it's nothing new really. Think of some of the iconic photos that were modified or recreated.
The naplamed girl in Vietnam running down the road with her arms out. The reason she had her arms out was she was being carried by two soldiers but they got taken out of picture. Or the american soldiers raising the USA flag on Io Jima. Done a few days later. Lots of examples pre-Photoshop, just it is easier to do nowdays. Also I think we are all more aware of the possibiliies so we are more cynical about the reality of what we are shown. It is a shame as we lose that sense of magic and wonder at some of the things around us.

Yep. I'll try and a link for you. I was staggered when I found out as it is one of the most evocative pictures of war.

Probably the most famous of all - alleged to have been taken off the coast of South Africa... where there is obviously a detailed copy of the Golden Gate Bridge! hehe

Obviously a fake - everyone knows that helicopters are not allowed to fly that close to bridges. There is actually an aviation law preventing this.

I too remember something was fudged about the photo but can't remember exactly what...perhaps that it was th fact that it was South Vietnamese planes that dropped the napalm and not US?
Maybe the image was appropriated by opposers of the war and them twisting the back story to suit their agenda, maybe by obscuring the US soldiers in the background?..I can't remember the exact details..and equally might be wholly mistaken!

S'funny I didn't notice those GIs on the newsreel footage of her running up the road towards the cameras.
