There's a couple of nice letters in The Times today. What do you call a group of smokers outside a building?

One was a Cloud of Snoutcasts. That tickled me. Any better? smokin

Sat in a bar in Frankfurt today and had a ciggie, most liberating really, rather like not having to worry about the speed limit on the autobahn, so just get things in perspective children.

Not having a pop, just fed up of the smugness of those that would like to prevent me from doing what I want to. Anyway, sat in the hotel at the moment so can smoke all I like. Never thought I'd consider Germany as the most civilised country in the world as opposed to the UK where fascism seems to run rife at the moment.

Hmmm, remember the word "perspective", perhaps best to look it up in the dictionary and then consider how you approach might be applied to everything else.

Plus, I do recall reading that the guy who proved the link between smokers getting cancer and smoking claiming that he could see no basis for the passive smoking argument. But then again, why let science get in the way? It works for MMGW etc doesn't it?

funny how it's always the non-smokers who have to have "perspective"

Dunno, of course you're a child killer for driving a car aren't you?

Passive Smoking = causes cancer
Driving a car = kills all children

I'm pretty sure that having you smoke whilst I'm having my dinner is pretty unpleasant for me but I dont remember killing any kids on the way there

and you quoted about having some perspective...

Well we all know that:-

Smokers are killing anyone within 100 yards
All 4X4s are driven by women on the way to school.
All Country people are toffs and filthy rich.
MPs know whats best for you.

Obvious, innit!

You don't get it do you?

Passive smoking may (or may not depending upon who you listen to) increase your chances of developing some form of cancer.

Driving your car increases the chances of you running over a child (or cat or dog or whatever)

So it really doesn't make that much difference really. Go figure why you should pay more tax on beer because some people get aggresive when they have a pint. Then get some perspective about exactly how much damage it all actually causes instead of going off on one based upon your state of brainwashedness.

Besides, i don't give a fudge about your dinner as I don't recall mentioning restaurants.

I don't smoke and never have, I have always HATED the smell of fag smoke, accidentally inhaling someone's smoke is just repulsive, whether in a pub, hotel, or the street. While you're eating is the worst of all.

It's not to do with getting cancer (though that is an issue too), it's to do with the disgusting smell and invasion of my lungs with faggy waste. Unfortunately it seems it's impossible to show a smoker how horrible it is when you accidentally catch a faggy breath as they are all so de-sensitized.

I agree smokers need to get a sense of perspective, what they do is foul and a horrible imposition on those of us who don't smoke and want to live our lives as we wish without producing stinky pollution that anyone around is forced to share.

Blimey! I would have thought that great big stick up your arse was more of a discomfort than someone else quietly having a fag.

Well, the health-Nazis got their way, didn't they? Nowadays, when you go out to a pub (if you can find one that hasn't gone out of business and closed down, or become a horrible "Gastro-pub") you'll find they now smell of B.O. and piss. Which is clearly a big improvement over fag smoke. And they'll be almost empty, so you can enjoy your half of shandy in peace.

Give the pubs (and therefore the customers) the choice - allow smoking in them if they apply for a "Smoking Licence". Those of us who do smoke will go to the smoking pubs, those who don't will go to the non-smoking ones.

I'd bet 20 Marlboro which pubs will be more popular.

I haven't seen ONE pub, club, bar go out of business in my area . . . or noticed that they stink of BO & piss.

It's nice not stinking of stale fags after a night out. Enjoy your cigs outside.

The ban has made my life much better - tobacco smoke gives me asthma, I can't be in the same room as someone who is smoking and it was a real pain having to keep a constant lookout for smokers and having to leave if they lit up.
