This isn't really a rant, I'm just curious really. Alot of people on this forum seem to be obsessed with using abbreviations for things, and alot of the time it's not entirely obvious what they are on about. BiB for example is used rather liberally in the Speed, Plod and the Law sub forum, meaning Police. But what the hell does it stand for?? I tried to look up a meaning but couldn't find anything. And VAG used for Volkswagen Audi Geselschaft, when using VW is one less character, and Audi is only one more, it seems a bit pointless. I can't help but think that new users to this forum don't have a clue what someone's on about have the time because of odd abbreviations eveywhere. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It's a car forum and as such new users should kinda expect a few abbreviations which are not immediately recognizable...

If I joined an S&M forum I'd expect the same.

Because engines/cars/parts are very common across the whole VAG group, it makes sense to refer to the "VAG" 2.0 TDi 140PS engine, for example.

Nothing wrong with it, some choose not to however, or do we all have to conform to some longhand norm these days?
