Okaaaaay, got a flat in town to save the daily commute, will be going back to my house at the weekend. What I need is a basic TV/Broadband package. Can this be done without a home phone being required?

I literally just want some basic TV channels and a decent broadband connection (unlimited downloads!!).

Not too interested in monthly charges as long as its not horrendous. i.e. £30 a month would be fine.

What can I get for sub £30 pcm?

Mobile broadband is no good as do a lot of downloading.

Been looking at Sky, quite reasonable without the expensive TV packages.

If you don't want a landline phone check if you're in a cable area (www.virginmedia.com) they'll do you TV+Broadband for £20 a month.

I had a similar problem and don't live in a cable area so had to get a phone line.

My solution breaks down like this:
Phone line from BT: £10.50 per month (£11 if you still want a paper bill)
Virgin broadband: £15 per month includes all UK phone calls after 6pm
TV licence: £11.63 per month
Freeview box for the TV (£70 job from ASDA that has a hard drive in it).

That's a total of £37.13 per month which is over your budget but you did forget to account for TV licence!

The Virgin package I'm on is no longer available but they always have something similar - in fact I think they give you a free NetGear wireless router at the moment that you can probably get £30 for on eBay!

We have cable BBand and mobile only from Virgin. Virgin often offer the basic TV with these bottom packages and it's pretty much the equivalent of FREEview so we stayed with that.

OK, unfortunately not in a cable area.

So I'm going to have to pay for a phone line? Not so much of a problem.

Quite happy to stick with freeview and splash out on a decent freeview recorder as to be honest I don't watch too much TV, the broadband is the most important thing.

BeThere do a 3 month contract unlimited 24mbit broadband for £18 a month, and it is proper unlimited, no throttling etc... They do have a fair use policy, but I download a lot (often over 100gb a month) and have never hit it, nor have I heard of anyone else ever getting warned.
They also do a value 8mbit for £14 a month, but that has a 12 month contract.
