Hi All

Just wondering if anyone on here loves getting wet fingers and knows a simple solution to my issues.

I have had a new bathroom fitted upstairs and new downstairs wc about 6 months ago and now everytime you flush the upstairs toilet it set the downstairs one off, where it will start to fill agaian and then run through the overflow.

I have tried raising and lowering the float in the downstairs toilet but this works for a while before it gives up. and starts running again,

it appears to me to be a pressure thing so i reduced the pressure from the stopcock but have it as low as possible to carry on a normal life upstairs.

Is it going to be a new system inside the downstiars toilet or is it a nice simple fix?

Cheers in advance

Ben

Sounds like the flow of waste water from the upstairs is pulling waste water out of the downstairs - you have venturi effect toilet which from a PH point of view is very cool. No idea how to fix it, but a proper plumber will be a long soon and tell you what to do!

the top image: the tube on the right is the float arm this doesn't seam to want to stay up and closed when set and either just carries on filling or seams to get set off when flushing upstairs.

is it just that sectionthat needs replacing?

the toilet was one of those from b & q which was a builders special or something at around £70

cheers

Ben

The B&Q stuff is terrible, had a flush mechanism break after two flushes. The connection to the valve will most likely be with a flexible connector, but if its hard piped using a tap connector, get yourself a 1/2" fibre washer as the old one will not re-seal properly.

Don't overtighten it either, the plastic thread on the valves break very easily!
