Here's one for the PH travel experts,

I've decided to go to the Maldives in October, can I ring up a hotel, book directly and pay in US dollars, thus taking advantage of the exchange rate and saving a fortune, or will I end up on a desert island with a bunch of Polar bears, wandering what that octagonal hatch is all about?

Anyone else booked this way?

Cheers
Dave

Do you have a Dollar Credit Card? If so yes just pay with that. I doubt they will let you pay in cash.

I did this in February this year for a Caribbean cruise, it was £1600 cheaper through an American travel agent. Just make sure you use a credit card, not a debit card, so that you have the security of a refund if anything goes wrong.

The resort we went to for Honeymoon certainly charges in dollars if you book yourself. PM me if you want details.

If you pay in dollars, use a Nationwide / Post Office / Saga or Abbey Zero card.
Most of the other thieves banks charge an extra 2 to 3% on top...
