So what do we think of this then - acceptable or not?

My house is behind a pub who have recently taken to using their 3 car space staff car park as a 'beer garden' by cordoning it off - much to my annoyance. They now park their cars in a sort of cul-de-sac, efefctively meaning that neither they or anyone else can turn around in that cul-de-sac now. I am strongly opposed to this 'beer garden', and as predicted, we have caught the pub owners plus delivery drivers using our nice spacious block paved driveway to reverse into to turn around.

Before we discuss this:
1. We keep our cars in the garage overnight - its just better that way and I can sleep knowing my car is nice and safe
2. Our house is on the market - so we don't want to start putting all sorts of parking posts and things in as any potential viewers will ask what that is all about, plus the expense and buggeration to us.

I am thinking about just getting one of those long spikey chains to stretch across the driveway after hours - so if anyone does reverse onto our drive, they reward themselves with nice scratched to their bodywork. Incidentally, I am no longer on speaking terms with the pub idiots because they have knobbed me off so much now. Its war.

I have never understood why people object to people using their drive to turn around in. Is it the wear and tear?

Sounds like the best plan in the circumstances if it's bothering you that much.

If you're leaving then don't let it get to you. It just isn't worth it and any dispute that arises will have to be declared, so don't let it stress you. Spiky chain is the way to go if you must, but don't spend a lot of time and effort. Look forward.

Why is it a problem? Does it damage the driveway?

Erect some sort of sensors that set off a massive rolling stone ball down the driveway, a la Temple of Doom.

Are you on about when you swing the front in, stop, and reverse out, meaning the front of the car barely even touches your drive? If so why does it matter so much, people do it all the time to me and I couldn't care less.

IIRC you're legally obliged to declare if there is an ongoing dispute between yourself and any of your neighbours. Does this constitute a dispute, if not it's certainly not worth escalating the problem to the point that it does!

Does it matter, seems kinda petty to be honest.

But I do feel for you a bit, another victim of the smoking ban hehe

yes

I have a private driveway to my house and my folks house and you would be amazed the amount of numpties who come in it thinking it's a bloody road, then proceed to lose all ablilty to turn without hitting something. Two weeks ago tourists came in it looking for B&B, gave my mother hassle for having no rooms and then he belted his car off my wall while turning. (although I am glad he did the wr) But it makes for scary viewing as my car is not garaged.

Also the issue if you have kids playing in your garden. Last thing they will expect is cars coming and going.

Put a chain up but you better make it visible or you will be replacing it all the time.

Wouldn't they need some kind of planning permission to do that?

A piece of ply wood with a number of screws through it should do the job nicely. Dont forget a sign though to warn people.

Failing that buy one of these:

Local council informed but they say there is nothing they can do (read WILL do).

They cannot just use a car park as a Beer Garden, they would need to seek licensing approval from the local authority, they are probably in breach of their current Liquor Licence. I would be making a call to the Licensing Officer.
