Now with Team GB a bit lacking for people in Track and Field I thought it may be time to find someone else to cheer

Speaking of Team GB, why are we called Team GB? Should be Team UK ffs.

Great Britain includes the Republic of Ireland - yet they have a separate team

Great Britain does NOT include the Republic of Ireland. British Isles does. We are the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Theoretically we should be Team UK, but we're known as GB or GBR in international sport.

ste, can't believe I said that as I was too busy ranting, you're quite right, but my point stands.

Great Britain = England, Scotland, Wales
UK = add NI
British Isles = add all of Ireland

Seeing as we compete with NI, we should really be team UK.

I don't think the GB in Team GB stands for Great Britain, it stands for Gordon Brown. Designed to increase his popularity except he forgot to tell everyone. Poor Gordon.

fkwit? rofl Btw, what's a back fkwit? hehe
You're the one who posted it the first time. Whether you meant Ireland itself or Northern Ireland, you were still wrong loser

Fair enough, you corrected yourself, but there are people in this country who actually believe what you said in your first post. I find that incredible.

Just in an attempt to confuse things, neither term is correct as there are 2 competitors from the Isle of Man, which is neither part of the UK or Great Britain. We are part of the British Isles though

Yeah and the Democratic Republic of Congo has really had a vote.

It's just a name, Team GB sounds better than Team UK. The world knows who Great Britain are, not everyone knows who the UK is.

Not too much dental work goes on in sport though.

Back to the point and thing we should be looking at her geneology. She's a brit, I'm sure of it.

Because GREAT sounds better than UNITED, silly. I like it when countries 100x more powerful than us still call us 'great' in respect to past achievements.
