dear ladies and gents i just found out that we pay tax on our car insurance premiums. as i understand it a bit like vat. its 5% i think.

is it me or does that just seem wrong, as we have to have it by law, plus surely as the premiums go up, we have to pay more.

i am not a little miffed at this news, i am hoping someone will tell me i am wrong and i can go back to the pointless activity i was doing on me week off. otherwise i might have a superheated widdle moment. wink

Here's one for you.....they charge 17.5% VAT on the duty component of the cost of petrol & diesel.

I.e, they put VAT on the tax. A Tax on a tax. FFS.

Breaking news "We're Taxed on our salary, taxed on buying a car, taxed for petrol (which also has tax), taxed on servicing, taxed on insurance"

I was thinking about this the other day. Take an average salary and an average spending. Figure out how much is actually spent on tax.

VAT on wages next. Sort of. Temp agencies will have to start charging VAT on top of fee from April I believe.

Unfortunately 'tis true. There isn't much that isn't taxed unfortunately.

Tax on what you buy, tax on the profit for the person that sold you what you bought etc.

Happy to pay tax, just have issues with how it's spent.

PS Rude-Boy, you going seperately in the porker tomorrow night or doubling up in the Chim? I'll be in the hairdresser mobile BTW, Wally is coming along.

i read somewhere that if you took a years wages with average costs for mortgage, petrol etc, you would have to work till september before you saw any of the money for you to spend as your own.

i was just a bit surprised that a legally required thing was taxed, just seems wrong, but then i think about who i am talking about and i am not surprised really.

Its 5% but theroreticaly it could jump to 17.5% as its only 5% by special exemption.

That's fine, just checking to see if we'd be the only non-tvr, at least if we were in the MG we'd have been on a par for loudness. The red bomber is a tad tame. (You do realise I'm only going to try and sell to your better half wink)

The Beatles....."Taxman"

Let me tell you how it will be,
There’s one for you, nineteen for me,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all.
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah yeah, I’m the Taxman.

(If you drive a car car), I’ll tax the street,
(If you try to sit sit), I’ll tax your seat,
(If you get too cold cold), I’ll tax the heat,
(If you take a walk walk), I’ll tax your feet.
Taxman.

‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Don’t ask me what I want it for
(Ah Ah! Mister Wilson!)
If you don’t want to pay some more
(Ah Ah! Mister Heath!),
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeeeah, I’m the Taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (Taxman!)
Declare the pennies on your eyes, (Taxman!)
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
And you’re working for no-one but me,
(Taxman).

Nah. Best idea is to get yourself a commercial aircraft to travel in. The insurance is tax free.
