Ok folks I need some help choosing between the two, first things first I do not live in the UK so I will not be subscribing to anything.

At the minute I have SKY+ with freeview here in Spain through a 1.9 metre dish, however after investing in a new HDTV I now want HD channels.

I understand I can get a Humax HD receiver and just plug and play, however I like the SKY+ pause and rewind facility, can I get SKY HD on freeview?

I know Humax are bringing out a similar box to sky+ at some point but I want HD now!!

I have looked at both sky and freesat website there is not a complete channel list and want to know if you get Dave and motors TV on either.

Can anybody help

You don't HAVE to have an HD sub to use a Sky HD box.

If you pick one up on ebay, it will still allow you to access the free-to-air HD channels - BBC1 HD, Channel 4 HD, FX HD and the like. It just means you can't get Sky One HD and the films and sports channels.

You just then call Sky up and get them to pair your viewing card with the box. They'll try to flog you an HD subscription but will still pair them even if you decline.

But not if I am in Spain, they will not do anything as I´m not really supposed to be receiving it anyway.

Neither are currently available on Freesat, Men and Motors is the best you're gonna get. However I do believe that Dave is scheduled to join Freesat sometime this year as are another 100 or so channels (probably mostly shopping and music). I did find a list of prospective channels somewhere through google. Also with the freesat receiver you can tune in any Free to air service and there is at least one HD channel, Luxe HD, that is free. There are also a billion or so other free to air channel in SD.

The PVR recorder in a Sky+ box does not work without a Sky subcription.

Channel 5 is also joining Freesat when contractual arrangements with Sky are finalised in November. Your best bet is to see the present line up on www.freesat.co.uk
We're selling a lot of the Panasonic range with Freesat built in and new LCD models are due in October in both 32 and 37 sizes.

Specifically, a card which has Sky+ functionality will allow recording even when the subs has expired, but with no card, a normal FTV card or expired normal Sky card you can't.

Freesat is not "Freesat from Sky", AKA "FTV". Five needs a Sky card, the new Freesat receivers do not have a card slot.

You don't get all the channels with a standard dish in the south of Spain.
