My daughter did very well with 4 A*'s 4 A's an 2 B's which was more than we were expecting. How did everyone else do? Including any PH'ers getting their results today.

Good idea, confine them all to one thread until they go back to school so we don't have any more questions about what they can do to bling up their motah!

That was my own immediate reaction on seeing the thread title too.

On balance, it's a bit harsh on the OP's daughter though. She did well - it's not her fault that it's a hopelessly undermined exam these days.....

Agreed! I was in the 2nd or 3rd year of the things back in 1990 and I only got 7... and there was no such thing as an A* back then either frown

I was one of the guinea pigs in the first year that GCSEs were rolled out - I got mostly As, a couple of Bs and a comedy C in RE.

I know it's 20 years ago now but I can't help but think that the papers that I sat were more testing than some mock papers I saw from last year's GCSEs.

Still, those who sat O-Levels will doubtless say the same about the early GCSEs compared with what they did....

Unfortunately, it was an English Lit exam and she was supposed to spell abracadabra.

They remind me of spinal tap, and their 11 on the volume knob.

Colleges usually do a "First Diploma" in sport academics.

This then progresses onto Diplomas in different areas of sport which is equivalent of A level.

What sport does he play?

He's an athlete.(Shot)
Realistically the only way he can aim high is by going to a US college as the coaching/facilities in the UK are not good enough. He ia aimimg for Olympics in 8 or 12 years time.
HOWEVER I have just spoken to the head of 6th form who has told me he can do A level PE despite his grades!!! ( they are a sports college and do not want to lose their best athlete) It seems common sense has prevailed smile
...and relax...

Thanks
The problem is, and it is very relevant at the moment, that to get the best sports facilities and coaching you have to get to university ( or college in USA in his case)
It makes it very hard for un-academic people who may be very good at sport.

I'm not so sure about that, A-Level PE is not about being good at sport, it's about the body, it's virtually biology in some respects. I'm afraid he may struggle if he's not overly academic, I'm sure with the right teachers he'll do OK though.

I wish him well.

We had a dinner lady at school known colloquially as Sex Machine. I don't know why, cos she was very elderly.
