Just had an e-mail from Fleece bay.....

As from 24th September final value fees for selling (Buy it now) an item between £30.00/£49.99 are being increased over 100% from 4.5% to 9.9%.......yikes

Monthly fees for a basic shop account over 120% up from £6.00pm to £14.99 pm.....yikesyikes

Inflation running about 5% at the moment......scratchchin

Well they have gone too far this time, they can go and censored themselves.........

Yeah I had the email too!!! If I owned one of thier shops I would give it up! It is cheaper to have your own website and you don't have to go with ebay's rules! You can name drop and everything on a website!

Cutting their own throats I'd have thought since 43% of their sales are now 'buy it now'. Good old FeesBay.

We need Google or some other large net company to set up in competition

ebay are just following the trend, everyone else (supermarkets, energy companies, government) are upping prices for no reason so why can't they? If we accept the shafting, then they're going to keep doing it, simple as that smile

I don't sell on Ebay, and now I never will.

A lot of sellers are starting to increase their prices as well to cover the fees so soon buying on there will be pointless as well.

Hahaha, what a joke.

It's pretty much more expensive to buy anything off Ebay vs a website now anyway. Why bother.

It's easier and cheaper to take the time to find something worth buying through friends/forums/communities these days, than arsing around with dreamers on Ebay.

Oh well, their loss in the long run. With their Paypal fee's and buyer rights now, you'd be mad to sell anything on Ebay, and now extra costs will be pushed onto a buyer, so buyers and sellers are both screwed.

Nice business model hehe

Are they simple? Do they think people WANT to just bend over and give them money for selling old tat (afterall, the new stuff selling is going to be (or has already been on lots of stuff) just as cheap at real proper shops!)

I got the email too, what a joke. What viable alternative is there though, Ebid any good? Does anyone sell through Amazon?

The problem is, a good percentage of the population now see eBay as the standard, and they don't even look elsewhere - eBay is 'known' as a good, cheap source of products, so some people automatically choose them and end their search there.

I can't complain, I and my family have done pretty well out of eBay (and the opportunities eBay developed) - but the rosey old days of eBay being great for the buyer and the seller seem all but over.

I try not to use eBay now.

I must admit, most sellers, even big ones, seem happier to start business outside of Ebay.

I think the last five or six products I bought from bigger Ebay shops I ended up ringing/emailing the person and just using Paypal invoicing, and/or they now have their own websites and I just buy directly.

Personally I try to avoid it now too. I don't think people are stupid. My dad isn't the most 'techy' person I know but he is pretty damn internet savvy when looking for bargains, and he's using all manner of shops and sites away from Ebay now... or again, contacting Ebay sellers OUT of ebay and they are more than happy to deal outside of ebay too (more and more it seems)

Also, alot of what you want ends up going for more than it's worth as silly people get wrapped up in the bidding rolleyes

Other web auction sites will overtake it I'm sure.

I got the email too....Even though i have already quit ebay and cancelled my account! Retards!

My brother also ran an ebay shop selling games and computer stuff (very successfully) up until ebay started upping there costs about a year ago. The result was that there was little or no profit to be made from selling low cost items once the listing fees had been paid, selling total fee paid and paypal had taken their cutmad

http://uk.ebid.net/ seems to be growing well.

Didn't they reduce the listings fee for Shops to 1p though to make up for the increased monthly fee?

Like it costs alot to run in the first place?

They are useless with disputes, they make a bomb from paypal. It's just a huge money making machine really. They do no real work.

It'll fall flat on it's face once that critical mass is reached at a few other much cheaper/reasonably run auction sites.
