My wife has just told me that she found 20 quid in the supermarket car park and handed it in.

She reckons it's good karma.

I think it's crazy.

Fair enough if it was a wallet or purse, but a random note?

My local pub's got a good one of those, got keys and a display and everything, and they don't ever open it without giving me a beer.

Assuming karma exists (which it does not) then her handing it in with a view to obtaining good karma would automatically exclude her, as the act is not so self-less when she hopes to derive benefit from this good deed in the future.

Also, the chances of it going to its rightful owner is nil.

I found 50 quid in the road once. Needless to say I was the proud new owner of Grand Theft Auto: SA a lot sooner than planned.

It depends if you are poor or not. If you are poor, it was karma giving you a helping hand. If you are not poor, it was karma giving you the opportunity to help someone who is.

There is a very, very high chance that the person that she handed it into would have kept it. Can you imagine announcing over the tannoy "£20 note found, come and collect it if its yours,.."

I once found £20 and almost immediately happened upon the very distressed looking woman who had lost it, so I gave it to her... but otherwise I'd have kept it.

I found £450 a few years ago - yes £450!! It was 9 50s folded up. What an amazing feeling as I picked up what I thought was one 50 but they just kept coming and coming as I unfolded the notes. I couldn't believe my luck.clap A few days later I found £20. woohoo I still get a funny feeling inside when I think about it!

Disproof by counterexample. I dropped a tenner in a petrol station once, realised later that it was missing, worked out where I'd dropped it, went back and it had indeed been handed in and I got it back.

Bloke I was at Uni with found a carrier bag with nearly a grand in it. His GF tried to convince him to hand it in whereas the 3 other blokes in the house screamed at him to drink it.

In the end I think he *did* hand it in to the local cop shop, but was able to collect it when no-one claimed it after some time had passed.

I still think he was mad... for listening to that woman.

Do you despair of your wife's intelligence at times like these? I have worked in retail establishments and occasionaly someone would hand in a £5/£10 note. I would keep it until the end of the day and if nobody claimed it, into the back pocket it went. I'd bet your wife's note has gone the same way.

Crazy. A random 20 pound note and she handed it in? She just made an Aldi worker 20 quid richer.

My aunt once found 4 grand in 20's by the side of the motorway. Her car broke down and while she was stood on the grass by the hard shoulder waiting for the AA she saw it just lying there, wrapped in plastic. She took it to the police, nobody claimed it and she got to keep it.
Years ago my neighbour found half a kilo of hash in the street. He did not take it to the police and is probably still working his way through it!

You are onto something there.
