Very worrying indeed! First of all, how can they be married without realising? I don't understand that part. Secondly, check my quote from a comment on the website, even more worrying!

On a separate note, historically, nearly all the offspring of European nobility were sold off in the same manner for land.

The upside being that over time land offers a superior return to goats and cammels.

Sorry, I didn't realise I missed the URL to the website, I found it while having a 5 minute break on Google News and was a bit shocked! I guess I'm a bit ignorant of other cultures.

There's no arguing with that. And no arguing that marrying off an 8 year old is wrong, but writing off muslims as a bunch of kiddy fiddlers because Mohammed did something entirely normal for the time is just a tad ignorant.

It's part of the culture in Saudi Arabia, so what's the problem? They're not expecting the UK to follow suit. After all, I'm sure the Saudis think it's unacceptable to allow 15-20 year old females to get blind drunk, fighting and puking in city centres every fri/sat evening as they do each weekend in the UK

Doesn't matter! The prophet/god says you are allowed to marry/fk children, so that is the end of that. No one can argue with a god... hahaha.

By the time she was 14 he was dead. "Aisha was six or seven years old when betrothed to Muhammad (aged 53). She stayed in her parents' home until the age of nine, when the marriage was consummated. The sources do not offer much more information about Aisha's childhood years, but mention that after the wedding, she continued to play with her toys, and Muhammad entered into the spirit of these games."

Not condoning it myself, but you can't throw up arguments like this because of the time we're in, or the culture we have.

As someone's already mentioned, what they do seems wrong to us, what we do seems wrong to them.

In the past people used to marry and sleep with children; the only difference is it's illegal now and we've grown up with that.

Really, not much has changed.

I read she was 14 at marriage. Either way, it's still normal by the standards of the time.
