Gents,

The long-haired colonel is soon to be 30, and I'm taking her to Jersey for a short break at the end of October. Not having been since I was a nipper, I'm a little out of touch with the hotels there. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm fairly flexible on budget but I'd prefer to go for somewhere in the middle of the range to leave some cash for her inevitable shopping trips.

Also, any suggestions on where best to go once there?

Cheers.

I went to Jersey a couple of years ago, and although I stayed in a B&B I attended a 'do' at the Metropole in St Helier - some friends of ours were staying there. It appeared to be standard hotel fayre. Looks like they've got a sister hotel in town too.

I made my first trip to Jersey in April this year and we had a lovely stay in a guesthouse on the coastal road between St Aubin and St Helier. No restaurant, just breakfast and lunch facilities but it was the quality of a five star hotel for half the price of a 3 star! It was just outside St Aubin by the sea, so nice and quiet, although St Aubin was only a ten minutes walk away and had a lovely range of restaurants. The guesthouse was a really nice old building kept in an immaculate condition. Highly recommended.

I'll never forget walking across acres and acres of empty sand to get to the equally empty sea. There was nobody about and it was about 25 degrees! Wonderful smile

Highlights of the trip were a trip round the vineyard, whizzing around the bay on a jet ski (St Helier has a good hire place on the St Aubin side), and a nice morning's kayaking with "Jersey Kayak Adventures" around the North coast.

Roo.

We went last year and stayed at The Golden Sands at St Brelades Bay. It was clean, pleasant and reasonably priced. I know a couple of people who have just stayed at the Somerville with no complaints.
