I'm hunting for something really unusual. Do you lot have any suggestions or recommendations?

So far I've found tungsten carbide, titanium alloys and zirconium.

Deep down, we're both metallurgy geeks so unusual is good. Cheap is also good hehe

Me and the wifey have got something similar to this. We had them imported through a Jewellery dealer in Lincoln. They are great and very unusual.

Mine's banded titanium. But only because I dent softer rings in minutes. It's plain/silvery coloured titanium for the most part, with a golden coloured band in the middle and two black rings between the gold bands and the edges.

Carbon fibre - man why did I not think of that! Damn, I missed a trick - getting hitched on Saturday with a gold band (well, not getting hitched to a gold band, but you know what I mean)

Platinum too commmon for you eh?

How's about using some second hand alloy from something exotic? I'm only saying this as our work team just won the MOD Grand Challenge ( http://www.science.mod.uk/Engagement/Grand_Challen... ) and the Prise was the RJ Mitchell trophy, made out of smelted down spitfire. Quite cool...

On this front, would it be possible to find a spare meteorite? Then simply, melt it down, make a couple of rings, an Bob's your intergalactic Uncle!

Another vote for Titanium here. Bought mine on-line from the US over 7 years ago.

Mine is extra-hard aircraft-grade (6Al/6V/2Sn) and has been great - I hate wearing jewellery and my only concessions are the wedding ring and a Titanium Seiko watch.

Strongly recommend finding 6Al/4V at a minimum if looking at titanium - base-grade titanium is not much better than gold from a wear perspective.

Very geeky and people are always amazed at how it weighs practically nothing.

Geek is good tongue out

The tungsten carbide looks quite fun too - its a lovely dark material, although could shatter if dropped. Mind you, one of the rings is £15 so I might just order it to see what its like.

Another with Titanium, black with normal coloured bands either side, I was anti-jewellery as well but don't mind this. Only thing is if it catches on something it can scratch (the other thing that is).

Titanium +1
I have this one: http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/615...
They do quite a range.
It was bought as a replacement for a cast gold ring which fractured.
With hindsight I should have looked for one with bevelled or thinner sides as it catches my skin sometimes when I'm washing.
I was quite gutted when I wore it to work for the first time and a colleague immediately guessed or knew it was titanium.

Titanium +1

Got MsT a tension titanium ring for engagement with a specially chosen diamond, and the wedding ring is its companion ring.

Both have a silver inlay which has been blackened by exposing the silver to sulphur. This bit is makes the ring unique as most people go for a gold or platinum inlay.

Mail me if you want the url.

I have seen carbonfibre rings online somewhere. They were not really pricey but I did wonder about how easily the laquer would scuff with day to day wear. I do remember they did different shapes and colours.

I dont like gold at all and I want something very different for my ring to. Thing is though that I dont really like wearing trinkets and my partner has not seen a ring she really likes so we are looking at having a ceremonial ring for the wedding and then later on getting tattooed together with something very personal to us.
