The Mayans and Egyptians constructed incredible feats of architecture able to weather the test of time, but they had no idea their pyramids would inspire the shape of the latest carbon-neutral super-structure to hit Dubai. Dubai-based environmental design firm Timelinks recently released some eye-catching renderings of the gigantic eco pyramid - aptly named Ziggurat - with plans for its official unveiling scheduled for the Cityscape Dubai event which runs October 6-9 of this year. The ginormous pyramid will cover 2.3 square kilometers and will be able to sustain a “community” of up to 1 million.

Hmm, can't remember there being that much green in Dubai...

Excellent.

People could be accommodated and treated literally according to their position on Maslow's hierarchy.

Just awful. I don’t think it’s the rich who will live in such dreadful “hyperstructures” but the indentured “guest workers” with no rights. No doubt they’ll be consuming recycled urine, feces, and corpses while being kept out of sight and out of mind.
Brilliant. Nutters are endlessly fascinating, at a reasonable distance.

Disagree. You gotta get close and really cut'em open to see what fresh madness you might discover.

I say go for it. The knowledge learnt will come in handy for when new buildings are built in the west. Are the exisitng buildings in Dubai full? I'm guessing not.

How mad is this, an underwater hotel!!

I work in construction and I can't even begin to figure how they would start to build this or how much it would cost:

Problem with Dubai is that nobody wants to live there full time. Yes it has a growing population but many of these people don't spend all their time over there, they alternate between there and the UK/USA/Europe etc. I honestly believe that there is too much supply and not enough demand. Aside from shopping, the Wild Wadi and desert trekking what else is there to do in Dubai? It's too hot to lounge about in the sun (ala Europe), the beaches will become overcrowded, too much congestion and prices are starting to mirror Western prices too.

Be great to go out there and have a blast for a month but I'd hate to live there for a year, it would be too intense and I'd get bored of doing the same things over and over again.

What the more motivated they are(needs satisfied), the further they move up!! not a bad move... The people on top are the most satisfied... makes sence, better views...

I expect that the under water structure will be constructed on dry land in a dry dock, floated out and then sunk. Once on the sea bed it will anchored and fitted out. The twisting tower is going to very different.

All Dubai needs to do now is rename itself Oceania and that building will fit right in
