Hurricane Gustav
Discussion
We are working on our H hour-120 timeline for storm preparations. Although it is so far out that it could touch anywhere on the coast, detailed preps must be worked early. For anyone interested, I will try to update as time permits. Tentative time/date for tropical force winds hitting the Louisiana coast is between 1000 Sunday - 0200 Monday....subject to change.
Good thoughts for King Herald (working in the Gulf)
Oil prices should rise (hopefuly temporarily).

Oh man, we're keeping our fingers crossed for you guys. We just had almost a whole week of tropical storm Fay, which dumped around 22" of rain on parts of central FL - but nothing compared to what Gustav is capable of.
Some computer models do indicate a delta hit - but others put Texas in the cross-hairs. The last thing southern LA needs now is another big hurricane.
Here's hoping both you and King Herald dodge this bullet.

You kind of become an armchair expert on these weather systems when you live in south or south-eastern US.
The worry is that after Gustav clears Cuba, it has a very open expanse of unusually warm Gulf (ave 85 degrees) to fuel it.
Best hope is that it gets torn-up by Cuba's high ground, but if it stays cyclonic when it gets into the gulf, it's going to open a very big can of whoop-ass somewhere between Brownsville, TX and Gulfport MS. This could be an extremely destructive storm. I'm worried, even though it's going to miss FL by a big margin (allegedly)...

You won't hear it yet, but it could turn toward your panhandle. Let's just hope for the best, all around. The worry is that after Gustav clears Cuba, it has a very open expanse of unusually warm Gulf (ave 85 degrees) to fuel it.

Yup, and the news is doing it's usual (and very American) Info-tainment/dramtising, which will only get worse as the week wears on.
The British press don't do this, now do they?
Seriously though - all the best to everyone out there - let's hope Gustav blows itself out.
I bet Fox News' Shepperd Smith is getting ready for the outside broadcast as we speak though.

BTW talking about big blow's .... How are our Honkers people doing after the Typhoon?? Its certainly been dumping a lot of rain on us!!! (sucked the Monsoon rains about 600 miles further south than they "should be"
It went up to a signal 9, which was hurricane force winds over the open seas, Central was fine though - I'm sure I've been to work in the UK in much worse. The last one we had (which was an 8) was much worse weather wise.
