have they tested other vessels? I'm sure you'd find coke on other ones too.

Seems to be the calibre of personnel the forces are recruiting these days. I heard that 5 or 6 soldiers were thrown out only a couple of days ago for drug useage.

Has always been the case, not a recent issue - illegal activity is rife in an environment where you have hundreds of low paid workers locked up in a tin can for weeks/months on end. The UK Navy are actually better than most - one of the most significant problems the US Navy faces on its carriers is the gang culture which exists below decks - there are so many people that a small town mentality exists and there are certain "no go" areas on board if you don't have the right look.

Sorry, where did I say it was acceptable? However, having coke on one vessel does not mean there isn't on others, thus probably not just the shame of HMS Liverpool.

Wasn't as rife when I was in the RN. Only the odd one or two dabbled in drugs and they were soon found out and given a warning or dismissed. Having been on a US carrier I can believe that.

rofl

I would love that to be true, HMS liverpool crewed exclusively by scousers, HMS Birmingham by brummies etc etc,

Or we could go with HMS Cokehead, HMS Reefer,

All we would need is an HMS Lapdancer, I'd like to pay a visit there.

Of course they may have just been chewing coca leaves, given that the shrub is native to South America...

You get some shore leave, get off your heads for a few hours and lose your
job over it, what really advanced modern thinking that is. NOT!

Yep, but you'd test positive afterwards, and I can imagine a load of sailors thinking it was funny and giving it a go.

Either that or they were all off their tits.

Its not quite as straightforward as that. It might be as narrow minded. But these people might also have been regular users, with the finger on the button of quite a few missiles. Or risk the lives of theif rfellow crewmen. Or quite a few million quids worth of tax payers equipment. On a warship, tyou need to be 100% at 100% of the time. As yet we dont know enough about the story. If its what you said, then they are over reacting. If its not, then they do deserve to lose their jobs over it. far too much at stake.
