The following object!

A work colleague was given it by his gran, she was left it by an uncle when she was 12 (gran is now 91) I said I think it is some kind of Brandy holder or some other spirit, the inner is glass and outer is a softish wood, all 3 top parts screw together, the glass stopper is simply that, it doesn't screw in or anything. Any idea of what it is, what it was used for, approx age (if it can be aged) also, he wants to find out if it is worth anything so he can possibly sell on and give the money to his gran.

Looks like it could be something to do with medicine. The different sections to the top could be to gauge different dosage levels.
Why was this left to his Gran? Was it something she used to play with? Does she remember what her Uncle used to do for a living? Are there any markings to indicate where and by whom it was made?

I will find out if his gran knows anything more about it, there are no markings on it anywhere. Why was this left to his Gran? Was it something she used to play with? Does she remember what her Uncle used to do for a living? Are there any markings to indicate where and by whom it was made?
