Why is it that the (new) Labour politicians are intent on blaming the previous Conservative government for everything? Is it that they're trying, pathetically, to blame the last 10 years of their own failings on someone else?

My example is school playing fields - admittedly the Conservatives sold off loads of them, but that was 12 years or so ago now - When listening to Radio 4 this morning, a politician (I forget who) said that they're investing ££ in school sports and that although they've sold off a few hundred sports fields, the conservatives sold off several thousand.

In the same light when they try to defend their record on crime, they always come back with a "well, we've done the best we can, but the conservatives wrecked everything"

It's not an isolated incident, they do it for everything: Prisons, the environment, etc, etc.

Why can't they just accept that they haven't done what they promised over the last few years in government and maybe, just maybe, we might respect them more.

(That turned into a micro rant - I apologise)

It can take decades to right wrongs (perceived or real) so political parties blame the previous administration, whether it be at national, regional, county or district level. It's the nature of politics - every one is at fault except the people in power at any given moment.

Is that why governments have 20 year plans - because they know it can never come to fruition?

(I'm in full cynic mode today)
