I'm sure this has been done to death but I'm going to take my girlfriend away for her birthday this year as a bit of a suprise and was wondering if there were any particular recommendations (apart from The Oxo Tower).

So far I'm thinking either Florence, Paris or New York.

It's going to be in early November for 5 days or so, so I dont want to go too far for obvious reasons.

Cheers all.

What's wrong with the Oxo tower?

I looked at Sorrento last year; seemed reasonable price and lots to see. Didn't go in the end as it wasn't worth flying for one day.

Hey? Wasn't there a near identical post/question about 2 days ago?

Las Vegas, good place to go for 5 days (if you like that sort of thing, I do).

Milan and Barcelona are much better places to visit than Paris IMO.

Barcelona is a good idea. Although we have been there a few times and have never been to Italy together. New York is still high on my list; does anyone know if it's likely to be snowy at that time of year - I know New York does Christmas pretty well - or if we'll just end up with rain and cold? The other issue with New York is the extra £000's I'll need to take her shopping for 5 days!

Was in NY early Nov 2001. It was cold, but dry. There was plenty going on, too. Only there for a week, but it was nice.

If you need to know about temps, you can use this

It will be similar to the UK - a bit chilly in November.

Very tempting - having looked into flights and accomodation I'm swaying towards this!
