Anyone know anything apart carpet?
Discussion
Sorry, not a "munching" thread or any other "shag" related topics!
Basically I need to get my house recarpeted (smallish bungalow), as it's basically the last thing on the big to do list. I don't want cheap crap, but I don't want to spend a fortune on something that will last 15 years as we're planning on selling and moving up as soon as the market is a little bit more sensible (hmmm...) next year. So basically I want something that's fairly economical but will still look OK and not all trodden down in 6-12 months if we look after it.
However walking into a carpet shop I basically have no idea of what I should be looking for, and I view all the banners with "50% off normal price plus an additional 20% off today!" and associated "just feel the quality of that sir" sales patter with a healthy dose of skepticism. What should I be looking for? I always though wool ones were posher, however they seem the same price as some polypropelene which are stain guaranteed against red wine etc (a very good idea for us!) How much should I be looking to pay? Do those ones with a little fleck hide any dirt/stains better?
I'd like to apologise to the collective for possibly the most boring topic in the history of PH but there always seems to be a resident expert on almost anything here! CarpetHeads...Laying Matters!

don't buy a cheap wool carpet, they use recycled wool (ie cut up old jumpers etc) which is already knackered before it goes anywhere near a carpet.
My father owns the third largest single (ie not a chain) carpet shop in the country and so i logically have the choice of whatever carpet i want at significantly discounted prices and i chose one of the modern man made carpets for my last 2 houses and i have been thrilled, you can clean up anything with a decent one, to give you an idea my dog stole a chicken tikka masala and puked it up over the carpet overnight and it wiped up with water and didn't leave a stain. Seriously impressive...
you don't need to spend over £10 sq yd for a really impressive man made carpet these days.

Awesome. Is there anything that PH can't turn up the answer to within a few minutes?
