Afternoon

I thought i'd throw this open to the pistonheads masses.

Myself and three other mates have each got a pass from our girlfriends and have decided to take a trip to Brighton in late October for a fri and saturday night on the tiles and am after some recommendations for

a) a place to stay - along the lines of a decent, centrally located B&B, offering a hearty brekkie

b) some decent places to check out (probably pubs rather than clubs but open to suggestions) maybe a few games of pool in the afternoon, and a few more beers in the evening until we either

c) end up in a distinctly 'un-poncy' club to have a few more, or

d) fall into a respectable curry house, or

e) find a decent music venue - rock, blues type of thing

Any help with one or more of the above will be much appreciated

Cheers smile

If your actually after a ladish type bar, check out RDF. My Ex works there who, coincidently is giong to be in Front mag soon. That should give you an idea what the bar is like... biggrin

Edit-Digital is pretty good, but defo give revenge a miss smile Honey seems to be full of pillheads when i go, but it can be a laugh!

Shooters is a pretty good bar, as is the brighthelm just up from oceana. Oceanrooms are good for live music i've heard aswell.

Theres a bar called Shooters near the Pavillion (Kemptown side) which is ok - open until 6am on Friday and Saturday and seems to have a nice crowd in there. Go early though and you will probably be the only ones in there. Not a bad thing though as the pom pom girls are all fun to chat to. (Right next door is a lap dancing club.) The Water Margin is also open all night and draws a 'cooler' type than Shooters but you need to get there early or yo'll have to wait to get in.

For your afternoon beer requirements, I would suggest you head up towards the station. Start here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&ge...

at the Battle of Trafalgar, then head down the hill and under the station concourse into Trafalgar Street. On your right you will find the Lord Nelson. Next, take a right into either Over Street or Kemp Street, then at the end take a right into Gloucster Road, where you will find The Pond. In the same area, you'll find The Basketmakers Arms, the Great Eastern, and loads of other decent pubs. You won't get a white wine spritzer at any of these, if you catch my drift, but none of them are grotty spit and sawdust places. Much better than the "bars" in the centre.

More here:

Club-wise, I always liked The Zap: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=BN11NB(The+Zap+Clu... which is not a poncey, teenage den but more of a "proper" club. You should find some live music at The Concorde http://www.concorde2.co.uk/

IMHO West Street is worth avoiding completely.

Oceana is a good super club, but it's on West Street ... check it out, see what you think.

Lots of nice bars on the seafront.

Stay away from Revenge.

Have fun smile

One of the better clubs is the Honey Club on the beach under the arches - good for totty, decent music and switched on door staff.

Oceana is mostly for the kids and a double plus head up to avoid West Street on a Saturday night..

Loads of restaurants of all types in Preston Str, opposite the old burnt out West Pier, including a couple of decent curry houses.

Loads of B&Bs in Regency Square, but BOOK EARLY for weekends. Lots of the Kemptown ones are gay friendly ones should you wish. Regency square only 5 mins stroll/crawl along the seafront from the clubs.

Oh, the Market Diner owner was selling up and retiring a couple of months ago, so check if it's still operating.

For sure, The Gutbuster rules!!

My 27 year old son also recommends a club called Digital, formerly the Zap, also under the arches.

The honey club is the generic cheese fest, but there is a wide selection of clunge, not my cup of tea but needs must sometimes. Audio and Digital are ok they tend to play the less cheesy types of music. All the bars on the seafront are reasonable and there's plenty of Live music/bands playing at the weekends

Most of the people I've met on a night out are on the whole quite friendly, a big shock when you used to going out in some dank part of London.

As other have said West street is the typical town centre type place, chav central.
