watched this last night. A belter. 1 Question... what's was the point of that mad old bat that appeared a couple of times - always asking if anyone had seen her husband. She was the only one wearing coloured clothes. I assumed it would be of importance later in the fim, but no.
I think thats the whole point of it - you keep expecting it to have some relevence but there is none. Superb film with excellent portrayal of what the Jews had to do so survive in ze war. Also one of many like that in my collection. Glad I learnt to play the piano
If you liked that you might also like Enemy At The Gates.
Great film. Want to watch it again with the O/H but "Those type of films upset me", so?! They're good films; besides, it's not all sad. I for one burst into hysterics when the bloke in the wheelchair got thrown out of the window.
Yes it's a terrible thing to happen, but to see it in the middle of a film, all I could think was "What?!" xD

ta - will getI thought it was quite funny at the end of The Pianist when he had survived the war and the Germans had retreated, and then the Russians tried to kill him because he was wearing a German coat to keep warm! I think only around 5 avoided the death camps by hiding in Warsaw didn't they? Out of thousands....
Also felt sorry for the German commander who helped him but died in a Russian prisoner of war camp a few years later.

The mad old bat was merely to show the climate of total desperation, and in her retarded state, the delusional hope of her husband returning. Maybe also she had gone mad when he disappeared.
The colourfulness of her clothes presumably showed how she was the only cheerful person among them.
