We went to see the Tracey Emin exhibition in the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art. I was pressured into it by my Mum because she wanted to see it and I hate her work, it is rubbish (no pun intended). My Dad and I thought it was pure filth, drawings of women naked with their private parts exposed, being the subject matter of the drawings. Tapestries that had bad language on them for no reason what so ever.

We walked out. I proved my point to my Parents, that her work is crap.
Why should did she win the Turner Prize with a messed-up bed? She is crap and shouldn't command the respect or accolades that she does.

Discuss Emin.

I suppose this is part of her art, that we sit around talking about her bed or shed or tent or whatever else she's put in a room.

I don't really know about whether her stuff is art or not or whether it has any merit but I don't particularly enjoy any of her work and feel largely indifferent about it.

She seems to be well regarded amongst people who know about this stuff and has made loads of money without harming anyone else. Good luck to her.

Why am I Billy Childish? Is it because I can critise art?

None of them but I am a former broadsheet reader, until it went tabloid size!

I am an artist and designer by trade/profession. People can say my work is st if they want to, I'll probably agree with them!

she's beyond me can't even bear to look at her. Perhaps I'm a bit dim but her art seems like a pile of ste to me as much modern art is. Can't pretend that it all tells a story I leave that to people who will give her and her fellow pretend Bohemians the time of day.

Just my opinion, but it is without question a pile.

Depends what you call art really. It seems to me that anything can be art if you can think of a pompous enough excuse for exhibiting it as such. I love pretentious modern art because secretly I'm laughing at the critics who think it's such great shakes. I've even been known to create the odd piece of nonsense myself. I should perhaps enter some rubbish for the Turner Prize with some cleverly worded description and then, after collecting the prize money, reveal that I made it all up to see if they'd be suckered by it. Now that would be art!

Erm, no.... Billy Childish is / was probably Emin's most important artistic influence ("Everyone I ever slept with" is covered with his name, for instance) until they had a fall out.

Art is purely subjective. Its in the eye of the beholder..... although its funny that blokes tend to want to look/touch/fk womens private parts more than anything else... yet a picture inspires disgust scratchchin hehe Quite thought provoking !!

To say any piece of art is crap because you dont 'get it' is like saying something written in a foreign language is crap because you cant read/speak the lingo.

Im going to disagree with your very first post.... i disagree hehe

Something is art because of the intention of the artist in creating that something as art.

I think I was a PH'er before TwinCam was.

The fact about Emin's drawings was that they were so crap, I don't know how on Earth she got into the RCA. I've drawn a few nudes in my time but I hate them as pieces of art, they were just ticks on a sheet of paper when I did them. The people that have seen my nudes have been impressed, it was possibly my technique with pastels more than anything.

Her book 'Strangeland' gives a gritty insight as to where her work comes from, quite like the girls work myself.

Vic Reeves (yes that one) is good too.

Usually there are warnings if there is something explicit in the exhibitions. If there were no signs, fair enough but otherwise it seems a little late to complain about that aspect of the show after you've bought a ticket.
