Graph of House Price Values past 34 yrs . . .
Discussion
So, stamp duty gets shelved on properties under £175k.
Hmm, a saving of 1% on £175k is £1,750…
House prices are falling 2% A MONTH at moment, so if you wait a mere two weeks, the asset value might fall a further £1,750 anyway !
Besides, given this guvmnts bureaucratic nature, you would probably spend a couple of weeks filling out forms in triplicate, full of personal information (to be lost later), and meanwhile wait a few weeks for approval, by which time the house has fallen another £4,000 anyway. Great …

A third was wiped off in the 90s and I would expect the same to happen this time.
Yup. That's only the last two or three years' worth of major rises wiped out.ETA: That graph doesn't look right though - did prices really flatten out in 2005 to that degree?

If you are so good at reading graphs and predicting what is going to happen, you would be using it to make money in the markets. Many people have drawn many pretty lines on graphs, most of them were wrong, even the ones drawn in pretty colours.
Onto the next house price thread please.

The early base data on that graph appears suspect to me. Everthing Pre 1990 seems over stated. Onto the next house price thread please.
Why do I think that?
My Parents Bought a house in 1978 for £18K and sold at the peak in 1989 at £100K
My Sister in Law bought a house in 1986 for £26K and at the peak in 1989 it was worth £70K.
The result of putting the base data right would make the line more of a curve, and more steep at from 1995 to 2008.
the other thing that pisses me off is when the Y axis fails to start at ZERO. It's just a small point but it gives an optical illusion that I personally don't like.

Agreed about the non-zeroed axis. I hate it when people publish graphs like that, it's so misleading.
