I assume I'm paying for this advert, through taxation? What's the point of this advert, is it trying to deter the 'impulse-people-smuggler'?

Yes it made me laugh too. As if the migrant would respond to it or could even read it and doubt if either would give a damn about it, it smascks as a complete and utter waste of my taxes smile

There's a growing movement in many European countries, including the UK, for governments to absorb illegal immigrants and grant them regular citizanship.

Why?

As persona non grata, they obviously illegally crossed borders to get to their chosen destination. Many do not have legal papers or have destroyed them. Those who have illegitimately worked in Europe up until now have not contributed one jot in tax and, therefore, shouldn't benefit from, say, the stretched UK NHS service to treat their Aids, chillblanes, pregnancy, in-grown toenails etc.

If you disagree with this, ask yourself if you could expect such privillges if you illegally entered, say Pakistan or Saudi as an (old world) indigenous European..

Not that I'm agreeing or disagreeing, but where do you automatically assume they are persona non grata? I was under the impression someone had to have been convicted of a crime BEFORE they could receive this categorisation.

It would usually mean you'd invaded the place with a large army....

You can laugh but it works. I've decided not to head to Calais with a hired HGV now.

I assumed that the adverts were aimed at foreign hurdlers, keen to come over here for our world-beating sports facilities, in preparation for 2012.

No?

The cynical side of me thinks that these ads are a cunning plan by the gubberment to proudly state that their initiatives have decreased the amount of (illegal) immigrants – when they know full well that a lot are now leaving due to less work being available.
