Cottage/Lodge - Yorks or Lake District

A question for the PH oracle.

Family want to get away somewhere in the UK between Christmas & New Year.
Thinking a lodge/cottage out in the country but there are 12 of us.

Any suggestions or recommendations ?

We use that site for finding bigger places but there are a lot of listings for smaller places and groups of cottages.

never been to the lake district, but i have spent a few summers at a cottage in the north york moors at a place called farndale and i can only imagine that in the winter and if your were lucky enough to get snow it would be a great way to spend christmas
